There is a minimum population estimate of 885(CV=0.41) for the California/Oregon/Washington Stock based on ship-based surveys during summers of1991 <strong>and</strong> 1993 (Carretta et al. 2005). The aco<strong>us</strong>tic effects analysis estimates that COMPTUEX/JTFEXmid-frequency sonar training events will result in 63 incidents of exposure of sperm whales toaccumulated aco<strong>us</strong>tic energy in excess of 173 dB re 1 μPa 2 -s (59 behavioral <strong>and</strong> 4 physiological).
