In 2011, 27.5million Americans fished 456 milliondays <strong>and</strong> took 369 million trips. Theirexpenditures for trips <strong>and</strong> equipmenttotaled $25.7 billion for the year. Freshwaterfishing can be separated intoGreat Lakes <strong>and</strong> freshwater other thanthe Great Lakes.There were 27.1 million anglers wh<strong>of</strong>ished for 443 million days on 354million trips to freshwater other thanthe Great Lakes. Trip <strong>and</strong> equipmentexpenditures for non-Great Lakesfreshwater fishing totaled $23.8 billionfor an average <strong>of</strong> $879 per angler forthe year. Food <strong>and</strong> lodging comprised$5.0 billion, 37 percent <strong>of</strong> total expenditures.Transportation costs were $4.5billion or 33 percent <strong>of</strong> trip costs.
