She is Academic Leader of McKee House, and has received an Academic Award every semester since beginning at the College in Year 8. This is a difficult award to achieve in any year level, and

in Years 11 and 12 a student is required to achieve an ëAí standard in at least five of the six or seven subjects studied, to receive this award. In many ways Kristy is a very positive role model for younger students. In addition to her academic achievements, she is a dedicated musician and member of the College Concert Band, participating in various Queensland Catholic Schools and College competitions, the Rock Eisteddfod and the Cabaret. She is also involved in kayaking, aerobics and drama. Her care and concern for others is obvious in her membership of various College service groups, including the College chapter of St Vincent de Paul Society, Rosies and the year 11 Outreach Program. In the wider community, Kristy has recently achieved the prestigious Queenís Scout award which requires applicants to demonstrate significant achievements in the areas of Adventurous Activity, Community Involvement, Leadership Development and Personal Growth. Kristy has been working on this award since Year 10 and says the best part of undertaking the award was ìthat it gave me the chance to experience new thingsÖ.Iíve become more confident and aware of who I am as a person.î Tyron (TJ) Tauroa - Wynnum State High School Tyron, known to the school as TJ, is considered a pleasure to teach by all his teachers and academically has been a great role model to other students. He is smart, dedicated and always quietly persistent. In the past two years, TJ has taken on the responsibility as leader of a large group of students who have formed a Dance Crew at Wynnum State High. TJ has been outstanding in leading this group of 50 students, teaching them how to cooperate with each other and staff. He has broken down barriers between multicultural groups and strengthened school pride. The Dance Crew has successfully participated in the ëBring it Oní dance competition for the last two years. He has been able to take his love of dancing to a new level in 2010, representing Queensland, and now Australia, in the varsity section of Hip Hop dancing. Because of TJís leadership, commitment, energy and persistence, the school has been awarded $300 from the Vietnamese community of Australia from a Hip Hop competition in 2009, and $500 from the Bring it On Secondary Schools Dance competition in 2009. His contribution to Wynnum High and its students gives many a reason to turn up to school each day. It is a wonderful sight to see him leading his group on the oval at 7.00 a.m. each day. TJís commitment to teamwork has seen him welcome three other students to support him in the leadership of the dance crew. Wynnum High is very pleased and proud to be able to present this outstanding young man to the Wynnum & Manly Rotary community.
