Thirteen’s an odd
number, an unlucky one.
The thirteenth sister, the
uninvited one …
My spell sent her to sleep for a hundred
years.
They hailed the prince for rescuing her …
— Entangling briars,
eternal summer —
… and blamed my curse on a breach of
etiquette.
Tell me, why would I curse such an innocent?
— Finger pricked on a
spindle and red blood
spent? —
It was a christening gift, that prince’s kiss.
