ELIGIBILITY OFFICIAL IMAGE ENTRY RULES Please read carefully, as entries that do not conform with these rules will be returned unjudged to the owner. Black and White and/or Colour digital images are eligible from members of PPOC or their affiliates, who are members in good standing (as of January 31, 2013). Photography students attending a PPOC-BC member school of professional photography full time during 2012/13 are also eligible. The maker must have personally captured the original photographic image except for Class 19 entries. Not Eligible: 1. Images previously accepted in any prior PPABC or PPOC-BC image or print salon 2. Image capture made under the supervision or direction of an instructor (with the exception of eligible student entries). 3. Images of the same subject, unless they are drastically different. 4. Only digital entries will be accepted—NO prints are accepted. Entry Limit: A maximum total of up to four images in any class or category per entrant. A member can enter up to four images PLUS a wedding album (an additional entry fee applies). ENTRY FEES To qualify for the early entry fee, all entries, complete with entry form and fee, must be received by 11:55 pm PST January 15, 2013. The last date entries will be accepted is 11:55 pm PST January 25, 2013. Early Fee $70.00 (inc. HST) for up to four images Deadline: received by 11:55 pm PST January 15, 2013 Entry Fee $95.00 (inc. HST) for up to four images Deadline: received by 11:55 pm PST January 25, 2013 1st Time Entry $45.00 (inc. HST) for up to four images Deadline: received by 11:55 pm PST January 25, 2013 Student Entry Fee $30.00 (inc. HST) per student entry of up to four images, received by 11:55 pm PST January 25, 2013. Entry fees are non-refundable. Completed entry form, signed certificate and agreement must be scanned and e-mailed. Payment is via Eventbrite through the PPOC-BC website. Cheques are NOT accepted. AUDIO CRITIQUE Audio critiques in mp3 format are available at a cost of $10.00 (including HST) per digital file. If you are entering four images and want four audio critiques, the cost will be only $35.00 (including HST). MP3s will be emailed to the makers following the competition. Please indicate on the entry form if you are ordering a critique. SHIPMENT 1. Entries must be e-mailed to aboutface@wlake.com 2. No entries will be accepted via hard form such as disk or memory stick or any other form of storage device. JUDGING The decision of the judges shall be final. The Image Salon Chair will have the authority to decide on any question not specifically covered by these rules. All entries will be handled with the utmost professional care and respect for the maker but PPOC-BC and the Image Salon Chair assume no liability for loss of or damage to entries while in its custody, on exhibition or in transit.

SPECS AND SIZES Digital files to be judged shall be in JPEG format with high quality compression (jpg 8) and in Adobe RGB (1998) colourspace. The file name for each image must be the same as the TITLE of the image plus the file extension, i.e., “Illusions.jpg” when the title is“Illusions”. File size shall be 2560 x1440 pixels. A square image cannot be larger than 1440x1440 pixels but must be on a canvas that is 2560x1440 pixels. Consider the extra canvas area as your “matte” which can have its own colour and treatment like a conventional 16x20 matte board with a smaller print mounted on it. NOTE: For judging, the monitor will be rotated according to orientation of the image, i.e. portrait mode for vertical images and landscape mode for horizontal images. Any images that are too large will be rejected and will not be judged. When properly sized,compressed and saved, each digital file should be less than 1 mB for a 4-image submission total file size of less than 4 mB. Any larger than this may not be accepted by our server. All entries to be submitted in one email only. Name your files in the same order as your entry form, with the item number first followed by the title of the image. DO NOT PUT ANY IDENTIFIERS on the image or in the filename. Please double-check how your files will read: eg: (Image # underscore title) 1_Dreamers 2_MorningUnderTheSun 3_Darkness 4_Forever IDENTIFICATION TEXT or ANY OTHER ITEM that could identify the maker is NOT permitted on the image. It is important that your images are listed on the entry form in the correct category and class, with their given titles, for positive identification. ALL images MUST be titled. “Untitled” or “No Title” is not acceptable: images so entered will be rejected and will NOT be judged. MONITOR VIEWING Digital files will be viewed on a 27” LED Apple Cinema Display, calibrated with a X-Rite i1 Display Pro device. The white point is set to 6500 K, 120 cd/m2 luminance and the gamma to 2.2. All images are viewed at 100%. SCORING Images are rated “N” (Not Accepted), “A” (Accepted), “M” (Merit) or “E” (Excellence). The scoring will appear on the entry form. Images scoring “A”, “M” or “E” are considered to be accepted for exhibition. The current PPOC-BC Honours and Awards policies and rules will apply. Image merit points (towards the PPOC- BC Fellowship) are awarded only after an image is accepted. Trophy winners and Honourable Mention images will receive an additional merit point. AWARDS Awards will be presented at the awards event on Monday, February 4, 2013. All accepted images are eligible for awards. PPOC-BC Observers are eligible only for Best Entry for Observer. Members from out-of-province are eligible for only the Out-of-Province award. Student members are eligible for only the Student Class awards. Special Trophies and Awards: The R. J. Hughes Memorial Trophy and the PPOC-BC Trophy for Photographer of the Year are awarded based on judges’ choice of best entry of four accepted images in two or more categories. The Photographer of the Year award is chosen by the judges, based on overall impact, technical merit, composition, presentation and overall variety of skills exhibited. Dorse McTaggart Memorial Trophy - Best in Pictorial Class. Jan de Haas - Most Creative and General Interest - this is an “Overall Judges’ Choice” award and can be won by an accredited or active member only. Alvin Schafer Memorial Trophy - best entry from all classes, selected from Langara alumni only.
