The schedule is as follows:<br />

We will conduct <strong>the</strong> lectures on Mondays and Wednesdays for <strong>the</strong> first 2 weeks.<br />

We will conduct all <strong>the</strong> sheltered water sessions on Saturday 14 July and Sunday 15 July. This will<br />

compress this part of <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g; make it easier on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>rs and students, and lessen <strong>the</strong> need for<br />

carry<strong>in</strong>g all of our equipment up and <strong>do</strong>wn repeatedly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> cove. When we get <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Open Water part I<br />

will be ask<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> arrange tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g with assigned tra<strong>in</strong>ees.<br />

LEARN TO DIVE IN BERMUDA<br />

<strong>Bermuda</strong> Sub Aqua Club will be offer<strong>in</strong>g an Ocean Diver SCUBA Certification Course<br />

beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g on 9 th July 2012.<br />

The cost is $475.00, and <strong>in</strong>cludes:<br />

- Scuba kit for use over course duration (Buoyancy Compensa<strong>to</strong>r, Regula<strong>to</strong>r, Tanks –<br />

subject <strong>to</strong> security deposit $150 refundable on return)<br />

- All written tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g material, log book, etc.<br />

- Ocean Diver level certification on completion<br />

- Annual Membership <strong>to</strong> BSAC <strong>Bermuda</strong>, <strong>in</strong>clude fee air refills, Wednesday nights at <strong>the</strong><br />

club - bar with meals available, and access <strong>to</strong> all club events (normally $265 per year)<br />

- Monthly DIVE magaz<strong>in</strong>e<br />

- Third party liability <strong>in</strong>surance on BSAC club dives through BSAC Home Office<br />

The course will take about 8 - 10 weeks dependant on student progress. Theory lessons<br />

will run weekly on Mondays and Wednesday even<strong>in</strong>gs at <strong>the</strong> clubhouse <strong>in</strong> Admiralty<br />

House park (for directions see www.bsac.bm). In-water tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g will take place at<br />

weekends on approx. 8 partial-days, <strong>to</strong> be scheduled with <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>r.<br />

Students <strong>to</strong> purchase for use dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> course:<br />

- Mask (tempered glass for scuba, check that it fits properly)<br />

- Snorkel<br />

- F<strong>in</strong>s (boot type with wetsuit booties recommended for shore dives)<br />

- Weightbelt<br />

- Lead weights (10 <strong>to</strong> 20 pounds. Best <strong>to</strong> buy 12lbs <strong>in</strong>itially and additional as you<br />

determ<strong>in</strong>e how much you need. Club has limited amount of weights <strong>to</strong> use dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

conf<strong>in</strong>ed water sessions <strong>to</strong> determ<strong>in</strong>e correct weight<strong>in</strong>g)<br />

- Wetsuit – optional this time of year. 3mm “shortie” is <strong>the</strong> cheapest but a full 3mm (or<br />

thicker) or farmer john will prove <strong>to</strong> be a good <strong>in</strong>vestment.<br />

Tips:<br />

- Check <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g schedule (or sample schedule from previous class) <strong>to</strong> see if you<br />

can realistically commit <strong>the</strong> time. It is possible <strong>to</strong> make up some missed lessons but<br />

not large chunks of <strong>the</strong> course.<br />

- You should be able <strong>to</strong> swim and be reasonably confident <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> water (recommended<br />

that you should have tried snorkel<strong>in</strong>g at least once and enjoyed it).<br />

- The first even<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> course will <strong>in</strong>clude a basic swimm<strong>in</strong>g test (br<strong>in</strong>g swimm<strong>in</strong>g<br />

trunks/swimsuit and <strong>to</strong>wel. No wetsuit, mask or f<strong>in</strong>s allowed for this).<br />

- Purchase <strong>the</strong> listed kit prior <strong>to</strong> first <strong>in</strong>-water tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g which will be on Sat 14 th July. If<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>do</strong>ubt wait until after <strong>the</strong> first Wednesday night <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> ask questions.<br />

- As a m<strong>in</strong>imum try on your mask and f<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> water prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> first <strong>in</strong>-water tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

There is only limited time dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> course <strong>to</strong> adjust for a good fit.<br />

- You need <strong>to</strong> have paid your membership and completed <strong>the</strong> medical form before <strong>the</strong><br />

first <strong>in</strong>-water tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. If you cannot answer ‘no’ <strong>to</strong> all <strong>the</strong> questions you will need <strong>to</strong><br />

see a <strong>do</strong>c<strong>to</strong>r who can perform div<strong>in</strong>g medicals.<br />

- Please be on time for all tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, remember <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>struc<strong>to</strong>rs are all unpaid volunteers.
