Hope, passion & a life
fulfilled
Behind Closed Doors
Over 150 businesses attended the Hollie Gazzard conference – Behind Closed
Doors on 15th June
“We've called it "Behind closed doors" because that's what it is at the moment. It
is still a taboo subject. We want to bring that out for businesses, and say, ok, you
have staff who will be being abused, perhaps not in the workplace, but they will
bring that in, so how can you deal with that effectively,” said Hollie Gazzard Trust
chairman Nick Gazzard.
for Hollie Gazzard Trust.
Laura Richards spoke about UK's stalking figures and some of the most common
misconceptions and this was followed by Alter Ego which was a really insightful
theatre piece on domestic abuse.
Nick Gazzard then gave a detailed presentation about his daughter Hollie and talked
about what happened leading up to the knife attack on Hollie at her place of work in
Gloucester in early 2014.
Research shows that one in four women will experience domestic abuse at some
point in their lifetime, it is likely that all workplaces have staff that have or are
experiencing abuse as well those who are perpetrators.
The Hollie Gazzard Trust is planning similar conferences in Wiltshire and the former
Avon, and would like as many employers as possible to get involved, helping to give
a voice to staff who are being abused at home, or in a relationship.
Held at Hatherley Manor in Gloucester and in
Partnership with Gloucestershire Police and the
Crime Commissioner, the event was aimed at
businesses to develop awareness of domestic
abuse and stalking in the workplace.
Speakers included Richard Berry, Gloucestershire
Police Assistant Chief Constable, Polly Neate,
CEO of Women’s Aid, Laura Richards of
Paladin and Hollie Gazzard Trust patron,
ITV’s – Julie Etchingham.
Nick Gazzard opened the conference
and introduced Richard Berry who spoke
about Gloucestershire Police Assistant
and regions performance with Stalking.
Julie Etchingham who presents ITV News
at Ten spoke about her role as Patron

Home Facemasks
So sometimes we may not be able to afford that luxury facial at the spa, but we still
feel that our skin needs some indulgence and looking after. So a home facial is often
the alternative. You can make so many different facemasks using the most natural,
and inexpensive, ingredients. I am going to give you recipes for my favourite ones,
but you can be experimental with it and research what ingredients would help with
your specific skin types - It is so simple.
Just make sure your skin is nice and clean in preparation for the facemask, and also
that you have half an hour or so to chill out while the mask is on…. And your wine is
in hand, thensit back and ENJOY.
DRY SKIN FACEMASK – Replenish and
Moisturises
Main Ingredients: ½ Avocado and ¼ cup of
honey
The many natural oils in avocados will really
help to replenish the skin
(if you don’t fancy using avocado then try
using natural yoghurt)
Mix ingredients in a bowl and apply to face
avoiding eye area. Leave for 10 to 15
minutes and then rinse off using warm
water and a flannel if required.
SPOTTY SKIN FACEMASK – Helps To Clear
Blemishes
Main Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of
cinnamon, 2 teaspoons of honey
Honey is brilliant for healing and
repairing the skin so it helps to fade any
marks or blemishes, and cinnamon is a
good ingredient to exfoliate and renew so
will help to get rid of dead skin cells whilst
renewing and brightening what is there.
Skin will feel softer and look brighter,
marks will fade and skin will begin to clear
with this mask used regularly.
ALL SKIN TYPES FACEMASK – Makes Skin Glow!
Main ingredients: Half a banana and 1 egg white
Banana contains natural sugars which will
help to provide the skin with a natural fresh
glow. It helps to brighten and lighten as well as
reduce lines and wrinkles. The egg white has a
tightening and firming effect so will make the
skin much more radiant, youthful and healthy
looking.
Mash the banana and egg together. Apply to
face. Wash after 15 minutes.
There are many other recipes for facemasks at home. Some delicious ones too!
But if you find that you are able to enjoy a spa treatment and really want to
indulge then facials in spa can range from between £20 and £60 depending on
location and products.
In my salon The Serenity Suite at Bells Hotel in Coleford, Glos we provide:
BASIC TASTER FACIALS 30 minutes long – a wonderful taster of the indulgence a
full facial can provide and the benefits of deep cleansing and tailored facemasks
will give your skin. Costs from Only £25.00
LUXURY FACIALS 60 minutes long – true pampering at its best. Clients lie still and
tranquil for a whole hour underneath the cosy blankets and drift away to the
pleasant relaxation music, surrounded by lime or lavender scents and soft candle
light. Costs from Only £35.00
We do special Offers on Facials on Fridays, what a wonderful start to the weekend!
Call us to enquire about our current FACIAL FRIDAY OFFERS!
Thanks for reading, enjoy treating your skin... whether it is at home or in the salon!
Best wishes……. Maria x
Mix ingredients together and slather on
face. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes and then
remove with warm water.

I have applied to the Guinness world records to attempt 10 world records between
June 2015 & August 2016. At present, 6 records have been accepted by Guinness & I
have planned dates for the attempts. Once I have all the records accepted & I know
that I am definitely attempting them, I will let everyone know.
These records are a combination of speed & endurance on both a road bike & on a
Mountain bike.
The last two records that I will attempt will be the most difficult & these are the
records that I want to break the most. One of them I’ve already broken & that is
‘fastest to cycle around the world’. I just need to get the official record this time so no
support crew in India & no taxis!
My next challenge
I am really looking forward to getting back out on the road for my next challenge.
The world record I will be attempting to break is ‘Fastest to cycle Trans-Europe,
North to South’. This challenge is approx 4000 miles (6500 km) in the fastest time
possible. I will begin at the top of Norway & will cycle through Finland, Russia,
Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France & Spain, all the
way down to Gibraltar. My first world record attempt is due to begin on June 10th
2015. This record is approx 4000 miles (6438 km) in the shortest time possible
through 9 countries. I will be doing this alone. No support teams. Me, my bike & I!
We will keep you updated on Lees World Record Attempts
The second is arguably one of the most difficult records to break on a bicycle. I’m
saving this one until last as not only will this be myabsolute favourite record to break
but it will be the toughest & I willneed to be in the best physical condition that I’ve
ever been in my life. I hope that after the first 9 records are in the bag that I will
be ready for this one. This record is ‘Fastest to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats
& back to Lands End’. These points are the furthest possible points between each
other on the mainland UK.

Social Paws
16 17
You can count on several hands the number of dog walkers in Cheltenham so it was
a lightbulb moment when Helen thought of a unique idea to help dogs who needed
that extra one to one care.
Helen Eade is the proud owner of
Social Paws - a bespoke pet caring
service based in Cheltenham that not
only specialises in one to one dog
walking but includes basic dog
training in the price of a walk. Helen’s
walks are more than just a walk and
a cuddle but an ongoing learning
opportunity for the dogs, who benefit
from ongoing socialisation and basic
training on and off the the lead.
Helen is particularly good with dogs
who need that extra reassurance
around new environments, people
and other dogs.
with a willingness to learn new skills.
Helen says:
“I’ve worked hard to get where I am today, doing much voluntary work including
helping out at Pets As Therapy and Guide Dogs For The Blind. I also worked at
the Cheltenham Animal Shelter for several years in which I gained the practical
experience in animal handling.”
If you’d like to hear more about Helen’s services please visit here website at www.
socialpawscheltenham.co.uk
Helen says:
“The idea came about when many of my friends were finding it impossible to get a
pet caring company who would walk dogs one to one. These dogs were either not
suited to big group walks due to age or behavioural issues.”
Helen’s services are particularly suited to older
dogs who need a shorter walk, those not suited
to big group walks or puppies who need shorter
walks but also ongoing socialisation and training.
Helen has over 18 years experience with a range
of animals - who seem to naturally warm to Helen.
But that’s not all - Helen is good with both animals
and people. She is able to emphasise with pets
and their owners needs, is patient and determined
and a great communicator. As an events organiser
in her spare time and previous work as a teaching
facilitator with young adults with Autism, Helen
really is one of a kind - always there to help others

Unique Stories
18 19
Hi my name is Carrie-Jean Mason and I am 34 years old!
I was born in Scotland and moved to Gloucestershire
at the age of 5. Since I can remember I attended dance
school and when I was five I started drama classes! I did
well at school and went to university to study Media and
Performance at Salford! After I graduated I was invited
back to teach Drama, my students included Jason
Manford and I went on to do things such as write a play
and perform it at Edinburgh festival and star in Having
a Pop, a comedy sketch show featuring Mark and Lard
from BBC Radio one!
At the age of 27 I was diagnosed with Hypomania a
mental health issue, which means you suffer from an
elevated mood for days on end! I was advised to change
my career and circumstances to suit. I kind of fell
into the Caravan Industry by an accident, and acted as a Warden for five
years along with an Events Co-ordinator! When January came around this
year, we unfortunately were made redundant, I had lost my grandfather to
Cancer, and because we had decided to move back to Stroud we had to
give away our beloved pet!
Because I started working at the age of 14 in
a cafe and have delved in
and out of the industry, I thought this would
be a great career to get
back into, with having my own cafe in mind!
When I found the vacancy for
manager at The Black Book Cafe I jumped at
the chance....It's the coolest cafe in Stroud,
if I may say so myself. I've started to hold
events such as open mic, comedy, and actors
and afternoon tea! They say things happen in
threes, good and bad! After a terrible start to
the year, we now have a beautiful house, two
gorgeous kittens, Brax and Bunty and I have
never been happier in a job!
Great Story Carrie-Jean :)

The Little Bump Company
The Little Bump Company teams up with Sugar Sisters for opening launch party!
THE LITTLE BUMP COMPANY, a boutique maternity
and nursing specialist opening in Montpellier,
Cheltenham held an exclusive launch party on the
Tuesday 30th June. Unique was invited by PR Guru
Laura-Jayne Roberts from Ivy PR @Ivy_pr_
Owned by Eve Fernando, The Little Bump Company
is a specialist boutique bringing ultra stylish and
comfortable clothes to women throughout the
Cotswold’s during every trimester of their pregnancy.
Mother of one, Eve describes how the idea for The
Little Bump Company was born: “It came from my
time as a young professional pregnant woman
struggling to find stylish, comfortable maternity wear
to suit me. I realised this need was not just for myself
but society at large and something that needed to be
provided.”
Eve Teamed up with Cheltenham Jazz Festival favorites, The Sugar Sisters for the
entertainment, guests nibbled on South Indian canapés by Bhoomi and sipping on
Prosecco and mocktails from John Gordon’s, were treated
to the beautiful sounds of the three solo performers;
Ruby Wood, Stac and Heather McClelland, who have
been brought together as a group by a love of three part
harmonies, ukulele and red lipstick!
Providing a personal approach, Eve and her team offer
far more than just a clothes shop. She said: “We want
women to feel comfortable, confident and fabulous,
whether it is at home, in the office or at a special
occasion, embracing their new
selves as their body changes
with fashionable clothes and
high quality, affordable products.
We will also offer advice and
expertise about their journey into
motherhood and a place where they can sit down and rest
whilst finding out a little bit more about the mother and baby
community in the area. That was just what I could have done
with when I was pregnant and I want to provide that service
for other ‘mums–to-be’ now.”
Eve and her team are also trained at antenatal and postnatal
care and are happy to guide women through the
features of the maternity clothing and accessories
available, carefully helping to select the best wardrobe
for each customer. Eve added: “If you have recently
had your little one, we can also assist with nursing
wear, nursing lingerie, nursing scarves, changing bags,
postnatal active wear and exercise programmes that
look after you and your baby from day one.
“Pregnancy is a personal and individual journey. A
local maternity store is
essential, as a tailored
approach to shopping can
make the experience of
being pregnant far more
enjoyable and comfortable
and something to be
celebrated not endured. If there was ever a time in a
woman’s life when she wants to feel beautiful, besides on
her wedding day, then this is it and it is our drive to make
them feel it.”
Eve highlights her excitement
to open her first store in
Cheltenham: “It is a great location
to open our first shop as it is a beautiful town and with
easy links to London many young families move out here
to create a new life. The fantastic schools and excellent
activities around the area mean it is ranked one of the best
places to raise a family in
the UK.”
We browsed through all the
beautiful products in the
shop and had a take away a sweet treat as a gift. Of
course all accompanied by the soothing sounds of
the Sugar Sisters, while guests sat back and listened
outside in the courtyard of John Gordon’s. A very
enjoyable evening and the maternity boutique
is beautifully decorated and Eve’s staffs are both
friendly and knowledgeable.
A launch party and business to be remembered!
Well done Eve Fernando www.thelittlebumpco.com
Cheltenham Town FC "The Robins"
Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson has
joked he nearly did not sign new midfielder Harry
Pell after he spilled coffee over his carpet.
Bath Rugby
Bath Rugby managing director Tarquin
McDonald says the club are ready to
win a trophy after their Premiership final
disappointment.
Bath were beaten by Saracens in Saturday’s
final at Twickenham.
Pell, 23, became Cheltenham’s fifth signing of the
summer on Thursday.
The player himself revealed: “His wife put on a
lovely spread and I managed to spill coffee all
over their cream rug.”
And Johnson told BBC Gloucestershire: “I nearly didn’t sign him because of that,
coffee all over my brand new carpet.”
Johnson added: “He apologised nicely and I let him off and hopefully if he puts in the
performances I think he is going to put in he will more than make up for it.”
Johnson is excited about the impact the former Bristol Rovers, Hereford, AFC
Wimbledon and Eastleigh player can have at the club, who were relegated to the
Conference at the end of the season.
Cheltenham’s other summer signings
Aaron Downes (defender) (ex-Torquay)
Jack Munns (midfielder) (ex-Charlton)
Kyle Storer (midfielder) (ex-Wrexham)
Amari Morgan-Smith (striker (ex-Oldham)
“Over the years as I watched him as a teenager at Hereford I thought he had an old
head on young shoulders,” he said.
“Because of that I followed his path, some clubs he done OK at and some he didn’t
do what I think he can produce and maybe a different manager can bring out the
best out of him. That’s what he needs, a manager who can link with him.
“He is a very good athlete, a big fellow at six feet, four inches. He will be imposing
and we have to make sure he is does a lot in both penalty areas. He can dictate a
game if he wants because he has that
ability and personality and the big thing for me is he is a winner.”
However, McDonald says their success this
season has strengthened his belief they are
close to ending a 19-year wait for an English
rugby title. “We absolutely want to win titles,
clearly it’s been longer than any of us would
have liked,” said McDonald. “We think we
are good enough and I don’t think that weight of expectation is a burden on us. If
anything it inspires us to be able to start thinking about the future.”
Their appearance in Saturday’s final was their first since 2004 and in an interview
with BBC Points West, McDonald said he is convinced the squad can improve on
this season. “Next season we will be challenging, I think the squad we’ve got and
the investment in additional players means we’re in good stead to compete in
both those competitions and that’s what we want to do. We feel we are ready to
win a trophy and bring a trophy back to Bath.” Bath’s long wait goes on.. Bath have
not won a trophy since lifting the European Challenge Cup in 2008. They won the
Heineken Cup in 1998 but have not won the domestic league title since 1996, which
was their sixth in eight years.
“We are all disappointed because we think we are good enough to win, our
supporters want to see us win and it has been a long time since we have won a title.
“Let’s not take away from a fantastic season and everything we have put in place for
next season. It’s a young team. We will be back stronger next season and we have
a really good platform for the seasons ahead.” McDonald also says there will be
some investment in the squad over the summer. “We’ve got some key positions to
strengthen,” he said. “The nine and 10 positions.
“Many of the squad are young and they are starting to play together for the club but
also for the country which is fantastic experience and the World Cup is going to be
phenomenal for the guys.
“So it’s both adding to the talent we’ve got as well as building on the brilliant
foundation - as well as some of the guys coming through the academy, so the
omens are good.”

World Championship Boxing
Bristol lad Lee Haskins is ready to fight anyone in the division after his stunning victory
over Japan’s Ryosuke Iwasa. Haskins, 32, floored Iwasa in the sixth round and stopped
him moments later to claim the title in Whitchurch, Bristol.
The victory has catapulted Bristol’s
Haskins on to the world stage after a
career-changing performance.
“I’m ready for anybody,” he told BBC
Sport. “I’m on top of the world. I believe
I can go all the way.”
Haskins, who now has a record of 32
wins and three defeats, will first have
to wait and see what happens to IBF
champion Randy Caballero, who is
currently injured, but a contest against
the American could be his next fight.
However, if Caballero does not return or is stripped of his title, a rematch with
WBA champion Jamie McDonnell is the biggest fight available for Haskins. He beat
McDonnell over eight rounds back in 2008 and would welcome the chance to do it
again, but is also keen to meet WBC title-holder Shinsuke Yamanaka.
“He’s a world champion now and is in a different bracket so depending on who he
fights, let’s just say he’s just manoeuvred himself into a great position,” Hennessy
told BBC Sport.
“I think the Bristol support certainly helped rev Lee up tonight, I really do. It was
beyond belief, it went crazy around the ring and personally I don’t mind that.
That’s what it’s all about.”
“I’m not going to call him [McDonnell] out as that would be wrong, but he is a great
fighter and I’ll fight him any day as long as we’re
fighting for a world title,” Haskins said.
After years toiling on the domestic scene, Haskins
revealed he did not think his time on the world
stage would come and admitted the moment of
victory was surreal.
“I’m the happiest man in the world,” he said. “I
wasn’t too sure if it was me who was knocked out
and I was dreaming. I’ll wake up on the canvas in a
minute.”
The fight, which was jointly promoted by Haskins’ management duo of Jamie and Chris
Sanigar as well as Mick Hennessy, was described as “blistering” and “sensational” by
the latter, who hopes to stage his next contest in Bristol in September.
