The Petitions <strong>of</strong> the People digitisation project captures the opinions <strong>of</strong><br />
10,977 petitioners, within 273 petitions created between 1870 - 1899.<br />
This ongoing online project allows researchers to find the names and<br />
addresses (sometimes occupations) <strong>of</strong> petitioners, and see what issues<br />
were important to Bendigo and district residents in the nineteenth<br />
century.<br />

Water Races and Tin Mines <strong>of</strong> the Toora District<br />

The book describes the history <strong>of</strong> tin mining between the Franklin and<br />
Agnes Rivers in South Gippsland at Granite Bar and Upper Toora, from<br />
the 1870's to the 1930's. Three water races including two tunnels were<br />
constructed to supply water for tin sluicing and dredging activities.<br />
