NOTES TO OWNERS AND COMPETITORS<br />
One of the objects of the BCPS Performance Award Scheme is for the Society to obtain information to<br />
assist in the awarding of premiums to stallions and mares for the improvement of the breed. The<br />
Society wishes to thank participants for entering the Scheme and request that ALL Points Cards be<br />
returned to the Secretary at the end of each competition year so that all the relevant information can be<br />
recorded.<br />
TROPHIES AND <strong>AWARD</strong>S<br />
With the exception of the Millfields Commodore Trophy, rider trophies and Part-Bred Special rosettes,<br />
all trophies and awards are only open to pure bred registered Connemara ponies.<br />
Rosettes will be awarded in the following categories:<br />
In excess of 2000 points<br />
In excess of 1000 points<br />
In excess of 500 points<br />
In excess of 200 points<br />
Rosettes will be awarded to tenth place in the Mills Trophy and to sixth place in all other categories<br />
with the exception of the Scarletts, Chiltern Lara, Martlets, Silver Duke, Parry and Carlingford<br />
Trophies.<br />
The Mills Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points during the year.<br />
The Millfields Commodore Trophy - For the registered Part-Bred gaining the most points during the<br />
year.<br />
The Abbeyleix Lucy Trophy - For the Runner Up in the Mills Trophy.<br />
The Martlets Trophy - To the breeder of the winner of the Mills Trophy<br />
The Scarletts Trophy - To the breeder of the most ponies gaining points in the Scheme.<br />
The Parry Trophy - will be awarded to the sire, domiciled in Great Britain, which has at least two<br />
progeny out of different mares gaining the most points.<br />
The Carlingford Trophy – will be awarded to the mare, domiciled in Great Britain, which has at least<br />
two progeny gaining the most points<br />
Rosette for the highest-placed British-bred pony<br />
The Williams Trophy - For the ridden stallion gaining the most points.<br />
The Lucinda Trophy - For the mare gaining the most points in excess of 500.<br />
The Easter Kitty Trophy - For the pony 138 cm or under gaining the most points.<br />
The Chiltern Lara Trophy - For the oldest pony in the competition gaining over 200 points.<br />
The Silver Snow Trophy - For the pony which has gained the most points in excess of 500 and which<br />
has not been placed 1st - 6th in the Mills Trophy in a previous year.<br />
The Finchampstead Rolling Stone Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in One Day Events.<br />
The Sheila Inderwick Memorial Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in dressage<br />
competitions.<br />
The Hellings Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in show jumping competitions.<br />
The Frost Trophy for the pony gaining most points in Cross Country<br />
The Washington First Act Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in working hunter pony<br />
competitions.<br />
The Miss Muffet Memorial Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in driving competitions.<br />
The Sparklette Trophy - For the pony gaining the most points in family/utility pony competitions<br />
The Irishtown Yerman Trophy – For the pony gaining the most points in Endurance.<br />
The Countryside Alliance Award for the pony gaining most points for hunting.<br />
The Macdunn Cup - For the pony gaining points in the most categories.<br />
The Silver Duke Trophy - For the owner/rider (or part owner/rider) over 21 years who has gained at<br />
least 75% of the points gained by his/her pony during the year. (The adult must be the pony’s<br />
registered owner or one of its registered owners and must not previously have won this trophy.)<br />
The Pilgrim’s Trophy - For the rider over 40 years gaining the most points on one pony.<br />
The Goosemoor Trophy - For the rider aged over 21 years and under 40 years gaining the most points<br />
on one pony.<br />
The Young Riders’ Trophy - For the rider over 16 years and under 21 years who has gained the most<br />
points on one pony.<br />
The Seloc Karisma Trophy - For the rider 16 years and under gaining the most points on one pony.<br />
Rosette for all riders 12 years and under.<br />
Part-Bred Special Rosettes will be awarded to the Part-Bred horse or pony that gains the most points in<br />
each of the following categories:<br />

Show Jumping Cross Country Hunting<br />
WHP/Working Hunter Ridden Showing Endurance Riding<br />

THE RULES<br />
GENERAL<br />
THE DECISION OF THE COUNCIL IS FINAL<br />
1. The Competition will run from l st October 2008 to 30 th September 2009.<br />
2. The entry fee of £9 (members) or £18 (non-members) per horse/pony must be sent to<br />
Julia Woods, 3 High Street, Cheveley, Newmarket, Suffolk CB8 9DQ with a request for a<br />
Points Card together with a stamped addressed A5 envelope. Continuation, Hunt and RDA<br />
cards are available at no extra cost but a request should be accompanied by an A5 SAE.<br />
Cheques should be made payable to BCPS.<br />
3. The Competition is open to stallions, mares and geldings of four years old and over<br />
registered in the appropriate section of a Recognised Connemara Pony Stud Book or Part-<br />
Bred Register.<br />
4. Trophies may only be awarded to members of the BCPS resident within the jurisdiction<br />
of the Society.<br />
5. Where there is an age group award, the age of the rider/driver is taken as at 1 st October<br />
2008.<br />
6. Points Cards must be returned to Julia Woods, 3 High Street, Cheveley, Newmarket,<br />
Suffolk CB8 9DQ no later than 10 th October, 2009 together with a legible photocopy of the<br />
complete card. Cards arriving after that date will not be eligible for awards although<br />
points can be counted for stallion and mare premiums. Competitors are advised to keep a<br />
copy of the Points Card and to send a SAE so that its safe arrival can be acknowledged.<br />
Competitors wishing to have their Points Card returned by post after the Prizegiving should<br />
enclose an A5 SAE. The Points Card is the property of the purchaser. The BCPS Council<br />
reserves the right to keep a copy thereof and to disseminate the information on the card at<br />
their discretion.<br />
7. Only a maximum of 30 shows/events in Categories 1-17 (see p.6) and Long Distance<br />
Riding and Driving (see p.8) are allowed and 4 classes per day. Points may not be claimed<br />
for more than one ODE per day. If more shows are attended please cross out shows that<br />
are NOT to be counted.<br />
8. Points Cards must be signed by the Show Secretary, Assistant Show Secretary or an<br />
appropriate official of the Pony Club/Riding Club involved. All signatures must be on the<br />
Points Card, which must have been completed by the competitor before signature. You<br />
should obtain a signature EVERY time you claim points including “Extra Points” and<br />
“Bonuses”.<br />
9. POINTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DISALLOWED IF ANY OF THE<br />
FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS NOT GIVEN ON THE POINTS CARD. As so many<br />
cards have been inadequately completed and consequently many points disallowed, please<br />
read the following carefully.<br />
First Column - DATE AND NAME OF SHOW OR EVENT and Organiser/ Organising<br />
Body eg 12th May, 2009<br />

(Please state full name of Riding Club as abbreviations make checking difficult.)<br />
Second Column - Full details of affiliation must be given (even if already stated with the<br />
name of the show or event) NB. Please make sure that riding clubs and riding schools are<br />
actually affiliated on the date of the competition.<br />
Third Column - The number of the dressage test ridden or driven must be stated if points<br />
are being claimed for more than one class involving dressage on the same day. Height of<br />
course (in first round if applicable) must be stated if claiming points for 90cm (3ft) or<br />
above for competitions involving jumping.<br />
Sixth Column - No points will be awarded without the Secretary’s signature for EVERY<br />
class including CHAMPIONSHIPS AND QUALIFIERS. These must each be entered on<br />
a separate line on the Points Card.<br />
ELIGIBILITY<br />
10. To be eligible for affiliated BSJA, BD, BE or Endurance GB points, the animal’s affiliation<br />
number must be entered on the Points Card. Participants in the Ticket Schemes should state this<br />
on their Points Card and obtain a signature verifying this fact when claiming points for affiliated<br />
competitions.<br />
11. Dressage/Dressage with Jumping (Combined Training)/ODEs/Dressage with Driving and<br />
Turn Out.<br />
i) Where points are claimed for any of the above, the number of the dressage<br />
test ridden or driven MUST always be stated on the Points Card if more<br />
than one class on the same day is being claimed for<br />
ii)<br />
Where any of these competitions are held in conjunction and a dressage<br />
test is only ridden once or a show jumping round only jumped once, points<br />
MAY ONLY BE CLAIMED FOR ONE COMPETITION.<br />
12. TEAM AND PAIRS CLASSES GENERALLY AND TANDEM, PAIRS AND TEAM<br />
DRIVING.<br />
i) General Pairs Classes - eg Ridden Showing, Dressage, Show Jumping and<br />
Hunter Trials - half points may be claimed per horse/pony.<br />

Half points for pairs does NOT apply to Trec.<br />
Tandem, Pairs and Team Driving - All driving points must state “single”<br />
“pairs” etc, and the points divided by the number of animals driven.<br />
No points are awarded for team placings, except at Pony Club/Riding Club<br />

Card. Failure to give correct details of affiliation will result in points being disallowed. Please<br />
use the correct abbreviation of the relevant affiliation, which is shown in brackets after the<br />
names of the organisations on the following list. The affiliation MUST BE ACTIVE on the day<br />

staghounds, foxhounds, harriers, bloodhounds and draghounds. The hunt must be registered<br />
with its governing body i.e. MFHA, MDHA, AMHB, MDBA.<br />
**A Recognised Competition Centre is a venue which has a regular programme of affiliated<br />
competitions.<br />
Points may be claimed on non-affiliated days.<br />
The onus of proof that a centre holds affiliated competitions is on the competitor, who<br />
should attach a programme of the centre’s events and the centre’s telephone number to<br />
the Points Card.<br />
Please write the name of the horse/pony clearly on any papers sent with a Points Card.<br />

PLEASE NOTE Points may be awarded for new/other competitions announced after the publication of these rules at<br />
the discretion of the Performance Award Scheme Committee. Competitors should submit a letter with their card if<br />
they feel they have achieved an outstanding result which does not qualify for bonus points under the present scheme.<br />
APPEALS PROCEDURE<br />
Appeals must be submitted within TWO WEEKS of the Prizegiving in writing to the Chairman of the Performance<br />
Award Scheme Committee. If an appeal is upheld, and it is established to the satisfaction of the Council that an error<br />
has occurred, points may be adjusted and additional rosettes awarded but placings may not be altered.
