division, has joined World<br />

Gym as president of global<br />

business systems. In this role,<br />

he will lead the international<br />

development and franchise<br />

growth of the iconic brand.<br />

“new clubs will become part<br />

of the World Gym family, ”<br />

teatum explains. “We want to<br />

move away from franchising<br />

as a ‘business transaction.’ ”<br />

World Gym, founded by industry<br />

pioneer Joe Gold, was recently<br />

purchased by Joyce C. Cammilleri,<br />

the cofounder of JoICo,<br />

an internationally known<br />

NYSC partners with FDNY<br />

on lifesaving Skills<br />

new York Sports Clubs (nYSC) has joined<br />

forces with the new York City Fire Department<br />

and nYC Service to offer free cardiopulmonary<br />

resuscitation (CPR) training<br />

classes to new Yorkers. All nYSC locations<br />

will offer FDnY CPR to-Go, a new program<br />

that’s taught by FDnY emergency medical<br />

technicians (EMts). Club membership is<br />

not required to participate.<br />

“In keeping with our clubs’ emphasis<br />

on safety, it’s equally important for us<br />

to train the public on how to assist in a<br />

potentially life-threatening circumstance,<br />

make a difference, and save a life,” asserts<br />

Reality Fitness Owner Named Top Trainer<br />

the Chicago Sun-Times recently recognized<br />

nicki Anderson, owner of Reality Fitness and<br />

Personal training in naperville, Illinois, as<br />

one of “Chicago’s Fitness Gurus.” In fact, the<br />

25-year fitness veteran was the sole female<br />

personal trainer to make the newspaper’s<br />

esteemed list. Anderson, who was once an<br />

obese teenager, specializes in working with<br />

overweight individuals and focuses on nutrition,<br />

exercise, and helping her clients to set<br />

reasonable, realistic goals. Reality Fitness<br />

features private studios and a lineup of nine personal trainers.<br />

“I strive to be the best trainer I can be for those who need some<br />

solid training, education, and motivation,” she said. Anderson<br />

has also lectured for <strong>IHRSA</strong>, IDEA, ECA, and AFPA, and has<br />

written several books. Her most recent, Nicki Anderson’s<br />

Single Step Weight Loss Solution, was released last year. —|<br />

Curves Member Featured in People Magazine<br />

People magazine recently turned its spotlight on Berenice<br />

Salceda, a 17-year-old member of Curves, for her life-changing<br />

weight loss. In 2006, the 5’ 2” Salceda weighed in at an unhealthy<br />

280 pounds, which prompted her to join the popular women-only<br />

club. Every day after school, she worked out at Curves for an hour;<br />

she also altered her eating habits and reduced her fat and carbohydrates<br />

consumption. two years later, she’s lost an amazing<br />

132 pounds. “I’m so much more active now,” the teen told People.<br />

“I’m a completely different person.” —|<br />
