Membership<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Chinati</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> is very grateful<br />
for the support of its members,<br />
who total over eight hundred local,<br />
national, and international donors<br />
that help the museum through their<br />
annual membership contributions.<br />
Basic membership for individuals<br />
and families start at $100 ($50 for<br />
students and senior citizens). Member<br />
benefits include free museum<br />
admission throughout the year; discounts<br />
on selected publications, posters,<br />
and <strong>Chinati</strong> Editions; the annual<br />
museum newsletter; advance notice<br />
of <strong>Chinati</strong> programs; and free or reduced<br />
admission to special events<br />
and symposia. Please see the membership<br />

As an extra incentive for membership<br />
giving at higher levels, each<br />
year an internationally recognized<br />
artist creates a limited edition multiple<br />
exclusively for <strong>Chinati</strong> members<br />
who contribute $1000 or more.<br />

artists for their generous support.<br />
For 2006-07, artist A D A M M C E W E N<br />
will create a benefit multiple for upper-level<br />
members. McEwen employs<br />
a variety of media and techniques to<br />
create works that comment mordantly<br />
on contemporary celebrity culture. In<br />
a group of works shown at the 2006<br />
Whitney Biennial, fake obituaries,<br />
painstakingly fabricated to resemble<br />
those appearing in the newspaper every<br />
day, gravely announced the passing<br />
of celebrities such as Bill Clinton,<br />
Nicole Kidman, and Jeff Koons. In<br />
another series, familiar commercial<br />
signage of the “Sorry We’re Closed”<br />
sort is carefully aped and inverted:<br />
“Sorry We’re Sorry,” “Fuck Off We’re<br />
Closed,” “Sorry We’re Dead.” In<br />
these and other works, McEwen<br />
prompts a double-take response in<br />
viewers, as stock forms are turned on<br />
their head and discordant elements<br />
introduced into everyday bits of visual<br />
boilerplate. McEwen has exhibited<br />
work at numerous venues in the U.S.<br />
and England. He will have a solo<br />
show at Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery in<br />
New York in September 2006.<br />

Para 2006-2007, el artista A D A M<br />
M C E W E N creará un múltiplo para los<br />
miembros de <strong>Chinati</strong> de rango superior<br />
en beneficio del museo. McEwen emplea<br />
una variedad de medios y técnicas para<br />
producir sus obras, las cuales aluden con<br />
sorna a la cultura de la celebridad con-<br />
temporánea. En un grupo de obras ex-<br />
hibidas en 2006 en el Bienio del Museo<br />
Whitney, necrologías postizas, prepa-<br />

obras, McEwen suscita una reacción de<br />
sorpresa e incredulidad, invirtiendo for-<br />
mas consabidas e introduciendo elemen-<br />
tos discordantes en mensajes cotidianos<br />
familiares. McEwen ha exhibido sus<br />
obras en numerosos lugares de Estados<br />
Unidos e Inglaterra. En septiembre de<br />
2006 tendrá un solo show en la Galería<br />
