Day
Chinati hosted its third annual Community
Day on Sunday, May 21,
2006. Community Day offers Marfa
residents the opportunity to enjoy the
museum’s collection free of charge,
meet members of the Chinati staff,
browse in the bookstore, and socialize
in the office courtyard while enjoying
food and beverages donated
by local businesses. This year’s event
offered visitors a final chance to view
John Chamberlain’s foam sculptures
and photographs before the exhibitions
closed. Also open to the public

Comunidad
Chinati celebró su III Día de la Comu-
nidad el día domingo 21 de mayo de
2006. Este evento anual brinda a los
habitantes de Marfa la oportunidad
de gozar gratuitamente de la colección
del museo, conocer a los miembros de
nuestro personal, hacer compras en la
librería y convivir con los asistentes en
el patio mientras disfrutan de comidas
y bebidas proporcionadas por negocios
locales. Este año los visitantes tuvieron
su última oportunidad de ver las escul-
turas de hule espuma y las fotografías
de John Chamberlain antes de que se
cierren estas exhibiciones. El público

Marfa.
Local volunteers staffed the exhibition
spaces, answering questions
and encouraging visitors to spend
as much time as they liked in each
installation. Among the Marfans on
hand were Mayor David Lanman,
Big Bend Sentinel publisher Robert
Halpern, donkey trainer Tigie Lancaster,
artists Maryam Amiryani and
Leslie Wilkes, master printer Robert
Arber, and many others.
The third annual Community Day
drew more than 130 visitors from
Marfa, Fort Davis, and Alpine.
Thanks to everyone who helped out
with the event or stopped by. Chinati
looks forward to future Community
Days and continuing to share the collection
with its West Texas neighbors.
