At 3:00 PM Saturday, October 7, Lannan Foundation Writer in Residence L I N H D I N H will give a reading at the Goode-Crowley Theatre. In 1998 the Lannan Foundation, a Santa Fe-based not-for-profit organization, expanded its literary program to include Marfa residencies. Linh Dinh was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1963 and emigrated to the United States at age seven. He graduated from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia in 1986. Over the past twenty years he has published poems, fiction, and translations of Vietnamese poetry. Dinh’s work is fractured, unpredictable, and sometimes violent, evoking the experience of displaced people everywhere. Displacement also informs Dinh’s sense of the English language, which (in the great tradition of American letters) he juggles and distorts with freewheeling immigrant aplomb. Dinh founded the literary journal Drunken Boat in Philadelphia and has served on the faculty of the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College. He is the author of two volumes of poetry, All Around What Empties Out (Tinfish, 2003) and Drunkard Boxing (Singing Horse Press, 1998), and the short-story collections Blood and Soap (Seven Stories Press, 2004). LEA MAYER ULRIKE REHWAGEN Internship Program The Chinati Foundation’s Internship Program began in 1990 and has provided hands-on museum experience to more than 180 students and recent graduates from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Interns engage directly in all aspects of the museum’s daily activities, working closely with staff, artists in residence, visiting scholars, architects, and museum professionals. Intern responsibilities include giving tours of the collection to a diverse range of visitors, managing our bookstore, office administration, preparing exhibition spaces, buildings and grounds maintenance, archiving and research, and production assistance on museum publications. Typically internships last for three months. Chinati also offers internships with a focus on conservation. Over the last fifteen years, participants in the Internship Program have come to Chinati from around the world, including all parts of the United States, as well as Australia, Brazil, England, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Scotland, and Sweden. As compensation, the Museum offers interns a stipend of $75 per week, and a furnished apartment on the Chinati grounds. Although Chinati’s internships are geared toward students pursuing degrees in art, architecture, art history, conservation, or museum studies, the museum welcomes applicants of all ages and backgrounds.
