become a little strange—imbued with
a psychological and emotional ambiguity.
The scenes Gallace paints are
at once downhome and otherworldy,
fixed in a specific moment and floating
outside time.
Maureen Gallace has exhibited internationally
for a number of years at
a wide range of venues, including
the Art Institute of Chicago (2006);
Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2005); Il Capricorno,
Venice and Michael Kohn
Gallery, Los Angeles (2004); and
the Dallas Museum of Art, Interim Art,
London, and 303 Gallery, New York
(2003). She received a BFA from the
University of Hartford in 1981 and
a MFA from Rutgers University in
1983. Gallace lives and works in
New York.
cia Gallace pinta casas solitarias, sim-
plificando sus aspectos arquitectónicos
para realzar el sentido de la forma. Las
casas se convierten en cubos, a menudo
carentes de detalles, adornos y entra-
das que interrumpan la superficie de la
2005. His work has been exhibited
in galleries and museums across Europe
and the U.S. and included in
a number of publications. His past
projects include War Story (1995-
96), in which he retraced a journey
made by his father, an American war
correspondent, across Europe in the
immediate aftermath of WWII. Levin
combined excerpts from his father’s
account of that trek with his own contemporary
photographs of the concentration
camps and battlefields of
Europe. Another project, Notes from
the Periphery (2000-03), documented
the remnants visible today of the
“Triangular Trade”—the three-way exchange
between Europe, Africa, and
the Americas involving goods, crops,
and human beings—which allowed
slavery to flourish for almost four centuries.
This project was shown at the
Venice Biennale in 2003.
While Levin’s main objective in Marfa
was to take photographs for an
ongoing project about international
border zones, his exhibition at the
pintura.
revitalizan. Y en el proceso llegan a
parecer un poco extraños, imbuidos de
cierta ambigüedad sicológica y emocio-
nal. Las escenas que pinta Gallace son
simultáneamente íntimas y de otro mun-
do, fijas en un momento específico pero
flotantes, desligadas del tiempo.
