Policies - Community <strong>Parks</strong>:<br />
1. The active recreation facilities provided in a community park may include, but are<br />
not limited to, picnic shelters, ballfields, hard surface courts, play equipment,<br />
fishing, archery, swimming areas, restrooms, <strong>and</strong> multiple use buildings.<br />
2. The passive recreation facilities provided in a community park may include, but<br />
are not limited to, trails, picnic areas, nature/culture interpretation sites, boating<br />
access, fishing <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong>scape plantings.<br />
3. Location <strong>of</strong> community parks should capitalize upon lakes, rivers, wetl<strong>and</strong>s,<br />
wooded areas <strong>and</strong> vistas.<br />
4. Facilities shall be sized <strong>and</strong> developed to accommodate large crowds <strong>and</strong> peak<br />
events. Community festivals, events <strong>and</strong> holidays should be considered in<br />
locating <strong>and</strong> planning the parks.<br />
5. Community parks are to be highly visible from major streets <strong>and</strong> shall include<br />
parking lot <strong>and</strong> trail lighting for facility security.<br />
St<strong>and</strong>ards - Community Playfields:<br />
1. Areas designed for organized or informal athletic activities which utilize both<br />
lighted <strong>and</strong> unlighted athletic fields <strong>and</strong> court facilities shall be designated as<br />
community playfields.<br />
2. Community playfields shall be not less than 20 acres or greater than 60 acres in<br />
size <strong>and</strong> shall appeal to a community-wide population. Because these facilities<br />
are to be driven to, parking <strong>and</strong> site improvements are to be provided.<br />
Policies - Community Playfields:<br />
1. Active recreational facilities provided within a community playfield may include,<br />
but are not limited to, lighted or unlighted fields or courts utilized for baseball,<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tball, football, soccer, ice hockey, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, skateboarding<br />
<strong>and</strong> free skating.<br />
2. Passive recreational facilities provided in a community playfield may include, but<br />
are not limited to, community festivals, special events, trails, picnic areas,<br />
spectator seating areas, restrooms, concession st<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> multiple use<br />
buildings.<br />
3. Community playfield facilities shall be geographically dispersed throughout the<br />
<strong>City</strong>. Location <strong>of</strong> community parks will capitalize upon proximate arterial or<br />
collector streets <strong>and</strong> upon sites with minimal topographical change.<br />
