Type 8<br />

A lady has knowledge of kamma. But after much<br />

persuasion from a sales-woman, she reluctantly<br />

buys a new dress.<br />

Dosa-måla Cittas<br />

There are only two types of cittas rooted in dosa (hatred or illwill).<br />

The symbols and the names are as follows.<br />

1 Domanassa-sahagataü pañigha-sampayuttaü<br />

asaïkhàrikam ekaü<br />

2 Domanassa-sahagataü pañigha-sampayuttaü<br />

sasaïkhàrikam ekaü<br />

Meanings and Applications<br />

Domanassa : mentally painful feeling, displeasure<br />

Pañigha : dosa—hatred, illwill, resentment<br />

So the meanings of the two dosa-måla cittas are:<br />

1 One consciousness, unprompted, accompanied by<br />

displeasure, and connected with illwill.<br />

2 One consciousness, prompted, accompanied by displeasure,<br />

and connected with illwill.<br />

Whenever we feel angry or displeased or sad or depressed,<br />

dosa-måla cittas will arise. And whenever it arises, it is accompanied<br />

by illwill and mentally painful feeling. If it arises<br />

spontaneously without being prompted by anyone, it is
