4 Vàyo-kasiõa – air-kasiõa; to develop it, one concentrates<br />

on the wind which blows the hair-tops or the grass-tops<br />

or which touches the cheek.<br />

5 Nãla-kasiõa – brown-kasiõa; take a brown circle of paper<br />

or cloth on a white background.<br />

6 Pãta-kasiõa – yellow or golden-coloured kasiõa; prepare<br />

as above.<br />

7 Lohita-kasiõa – red-kasiõa; prepare as above.<br />

8 Odàta-kasiõa – white-kasiõa; take a white circle of paper<br />

or cloth on a black background.<br />

9 âloka-kasiõa – light-kasiõa; it may be developed by<br />

concentrating on the morning or evening sun, on the<br />

moon, or on a circle of light cast on the floor or wall by<br />

sunlight entering through a hole in the wall.<br />

10 âkàsa-kasiõa – space-kasiõa; it may be developed by<br />

looking through a hole in the wall towards the outside<br />

space having sky as background.<br />

An example of meditation on kasiõa will be illustrated soon.<br />

One can develop all the five råpàvacara-jhànas by meditating on<br />

a kasiõa. One can the precede on to develop four aråpàvacarajhànas<br />

and five lokiya-abhi¤¤àõas (mundane super-knowledge)<br />

based on the ten kasiõas.<br />

Ten Asubhas<br />

They refer to ten kinds of corpses which were found in ancient<br />

Indian cemeteries where dead bodies were not buried or<br />

cremated and where flesh-eating animals such as dogs, wolves<br />

and vultures frequent.<br />

In modern days any kind of corpse which shows the<br />

loathsomeness of the body is a suitable object for meditation.
