The four great essentials (mahàbhåta) are related to one<br />

another and also to co-nascent derived material qualities<br />

(upàdà-råpa) by way of sahajàta condition.<br />

At the moment of conception, the heart-base (hadayavatthu)<br />

is related to the rebirth consciousness and its<br />

concomitants by way of sahajàta condition.<br />

3 The relation of a¤¤ama¤¤a (mutuality) is threefold:<br />

i Co-nascent citta and cetasikas are mutually related by<br />

way of a¤¤ama¤¤a condition.<br />

ii The four great essentials are mutually related by way<br />

of a¤¤ama¤¤a condition.<br />

iii At the moment of conception, the heart-base is related<br />

to the rebirth-consciousness and its concomitants by<br />

way of a¤¤ama¤¤a condition.<br />

4 The relation of nissaya (dependence) is threefold:<br />

i Co-nascent citta and cetasikas are related to one another<br />

and also to co-nascent matter by way of nissaya<br />

condition.<br />

ii The four great essentials are related to one another and<br />

also to co-nascent derived material qualities by way of<br />

nissaya condition.<br />

iii The six bases (vatthu) are related to the seven vi¤¤àõadhàtus<br />

by way of nissaya condition.<br />

5 The relation of àhàra (nutriment) is twofold:<br />

i Edible food is related to corporeal groups by way of<br />

àhàra-condition.<br />

ii The three mental nutriments (phassa, cetanà, and<br />

vi¤¤àõa) are related to co-nascent mind and matter by<br />

way of àhàra-condition.
