In the Bhåmi Chart (i.e. Chart No. 5.1 attached at the back<br />

of this book), the rebirth-consciousness is described according<br />

to the five råpàvacara-jhàna method whereas the Råpa-planes<br />

are described according to the four råpàvacara-jhàna method.<br />

The two methods of counting råpàvacara jhànas, together<br />

with the names of the råpa-planes, are illustrated in Table 5.1.<br />

Four Modes of Conceiving<br />

1 Andaja-pañisandhi – conceiving in egg shell<br />

2 Jalàbuja-pañisandhi – conceiving in the womb<br />

3 Samsedaja-pañisandhi – conceiving in the hollow or a treetrunk,<br />

in a fruit, in a flower, in marsh, in stagnant water,<br />

in corpses and carcasses, etc., like flies and mosquitoes.<br />
