PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
What a great summer we had at the Centre! I hope you were able to participate
in some of the activities we had running. It was wonderful to have Music in the
Park back again - what a great setting to spend a summer evening. We also had
some amazing Camps run by some amazing Youth! The Chris Payne Legacy
Fund was initiated to assist families in sending their child to our Summer Daze
Camp – we sent 7 kids to camp this year! Now we turn to Fall – Our programmers,
Eva and Nav, have yet again, done a great job laying out an action-packed agenda
for the coming months.
So come on by – take a class, meet your friends, play some ping pong, listen
to some music (we will be having music upstairs on the ‘Bow’) and have lunch
at Libby’s!
As always, with pride,
LICENSED PRESCHOOL
Sunny and Lucy welcome you to Trout Lake Preschool, where they offer
children aged 3 and 4 years old a stimulating, warm, and playful educational
program.
Creative arts, language, literature, music, field trips and gross motor
activities are part of the learning and fun! Sunny Abebe and Lucy Sayo have
been teaching together at Trout Lake Preschool for twelve years. They are
both licensed and E.C.E certified. They have a great working relationship
and their goal is to give your child the opportunity to experience high
encourages the development of the whole child.
A typical day at Trout Lake Preschool begins with a Free Play session,
where children can choose from various play centres. After a healthy snack,
children participate in Circle Time, where they play games, share ideas,
listen to exciting stories and learn new songs. Of course there’s also time
to play outdoors in the fresh air!
At Trout Lake Preschool we feel that it is important for the children to get involved with the materials that we are using. This “hands-on” approach will often
be a bit messy. We encourage the children to come dressed in comfortable play clothes that they can get dirty.
children’s mental development. They improve in
their ability to manipulate tools, and translate ideas
priority is given to process rather than product. A
child grows through hands on involvement with
In the Lakewood Room
Artist Gareth Moore approached seven
international contemporary artists, including
Vancouver’s Geoffrey Farmer, to produce
short films made exclusively for children. Each
artist was free to focus on any topic and Moore
then collated their offerings into one longer
work, with each piece acting as a discrete but
interconnected episode. Moore questions and
pokes fun at the contemporary art world and
assumptions about “appropriate” audiences
for art. NO GROWN UPS ARE ALLOWED
in to see Children’s Films unless they are
accompanied by children!
All About Art 6-10 yrs
Jennifer Lyons
Participants explore the world of art and creative
expression. In each project we re-use at least one
item and learn to turn ‘junk’ into treasure. Children
discover a love of recycling and our environment
while learning new skills such as: collage,
colour blending, and texture. In each class we
make a mess with different materials including:
paint, watercolours, pastels, charcoal, glue,
paper and more. Experience a studio filled with
laughter, joy and passion as we learn new tools
to express ourselves through art and play! When
you register you will receive a complimentary
childrens book at the first class. Jennifer draws
out the creative potential of students using
art as a tool for discovery. With 12 years of
experience facilitating child development, she
“energy work,” or “energy cultivation training.”
There are many forms of Qigong coming from
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Claire’s work has been displayed in public buildings and private collections
in Canada and the United States. She continues to paint in her home studio
after moving to Vancouver in 2011. We all live within an inner world of
images, thoughts and memories that shift continually, evoking a rich texture
of feelings, emotions and moods. Sometimes images arise vividly in our
minds and spark a chain of thoughts and ideas. Those ideas come to focus
and expression in forms, color, and texture.
