Organizing Authority
The Organizing Authority is the Sonar Class Association in conjunction with Sonar Fleet 5 and the
Wayzata Yacht Club (WYC).
Rules
The regatta will be governed by the 2009 – 2012 Racing Rules of Sailing as amended on
January 1, 2010 (RRS), the rules of the Sonar Class (SCA), this Notice of Race and by the Sailing
Instructions. In case of a conflict between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions,
the Sailing Instructions prevail. This changes RRS 63.7 . The Sonar Class Association Rules are
modified to allow each boat to carry a Kattack GPS device for the sole purpose of after-race
replay and analysis.
Eligibility and Crew
The regatta is open to any boats of the Sonar Class eligible to race with a valid measurement
certificate. The Person-in-charge and the Helmsman must be Active members of the SCA. The
Person-in-charge and the Helmsman may be the same person. A boat is permitted to sail with
different crew each day as originally submitted or revised on the entry form by midnight Sep 8th
2011. If not specified or submitted until after Sep 8th a boat shall consist of the same people
for the whole regatta unless a change is approved by the Jury in accordance with Class rule
C.2.1 . The purpose of the deadline is to avoid the changing crew weights based on the sailing
conditions.
Entry
Registration may be completed online at http://wyc.org/sonar/2011SonarNAs.aspx or in person
on Thursday, September 22 from 1400-1700 at WYC.
An early entry fee paid by 1700 August 01, 2011 will be $325. The entry fee after August 15, 2011
but before 1700 September 02, 2011 will be $375. After September 2nd the entry fee will be
$400. No registrations shall be accepted after 1700 on Thursday, September 22, 2011.
Entry fee inclusions
● Crane access at Wayzata Yacht Club and mooring or dockage for the duration of the regatta.
● For All Participants;
Thursday through Sunday: Free Beer & Pop
Thursday Evening: Post Race Food from the grill or pizza will be available at WYC from $5
Friday: Continental Breakfast & Post Race Snacks
Saturday: Cocktails, Entertainment and Regatta Dinner (sailing attire or casual dress)
(Four Saturday Dinner tickets included. Additional tickets $10 in advance $15 at the door)
Sunday: Lunch and Snacks at the Awards Ceremony.

Measurement
Sails must be measured, certified and carry certification marks. Sails shall comply with the class
rules in force at the time of the initial fundamental measurement. Boats may be measured for
compliance with the Class regulations and class rules. Measurements and required gear may be
spot checked.
Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions will be available by Thursday, Sep 22 and during packet pickup.

Racing Area
All races will be held on Lower Lake Minnetonka.
Series
The Series will be raced over three days. Three races (per SCA B10.01) will constitute a series.
Radio Communication
The RC will make periodic hails before and during the race on VHF Channel 68. A hand held VHF
radio strongly encouraged for all boats.
Kattack
Although not required we strongly encourage each participating boat to carry a Kattack
supported GPS device for after-race replay and analysis. GPS devices provided by Kattack will be
made available to you at regatta check in. A preauthorization deposit will be required.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the skipper and crew of the top five finishers.
Advertising
Class Rules C.1 restricts advertising to Category C with limitations.

Media Rights
By submitting an Entry Form, entrants and their crew give absolute right and permission for
video footage, on line graphic displays or photographs of themselves and/or of their boat to be
distributed in any media for press, editorial or advertising purposes.
Disclaimer of Liability
Entrants and their crew participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk
(RRS 4, Decision to Race). The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material
damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the
regatta.
Entrants will be required to sign a waiver of liability during registration.
Insurance
The safety of a boat and her entire management shall be the sole inescapable responsibility of
the owner or person in charge. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party
liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $300,000 per event or the equivalent. Each yacht
shall be covered by adequate Third party Damage and Personal Injury Liability insurance. The
Person in Charge of each yacht may be required to produce evidence of Insurance upon demand.

All requests for housing should be directed to Gail Klein Cell (612) 387-7931 or
gail.l.klein@gmail.com. Our expectation is that we will have the ability to accommodate all
requests for housing. Every effort will be made to house teams in the same location and in close
proximity to the yacht club. If you prefer commercial housing, Gail will be able to recommend
accommodations.

limitation, the use of the dry sailing hoists, the use of docks or moorings, the movement or storage
of trailers, collisions, sinkings and any other incident or accident. I hereby agree to waive any and
all claims against Sonar Fleet 5 and the Wayzata Yacht Club, including their members, officers,
directors, employees or agents, arising out of or in any way connected with the participation in this
regatta and any related activities. I agree that this waiver is binding on my heirs, representatives,
