Organizing Authority<br />

The Organizing Authority is the Sonar Class Association in conjunction with Sonar Fleet 5 and the<br />

<strong>Wayzata</strong> <strong>Yacht</strong> <strong>Club</strong> (WYC).<br />

Rules<br />

The regatta will be governed by the 2009 – 2012 Racing Rules <strong>of</strong> Sailing as amended on<br />

January 1, 2010 (RRS), the rules <strong>of</strong> the Sonar Class (SCA), this <strong>Notice</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Race</strong> and by the Sailing<br />

Instructions. In case <strong>of</strong> a conflict between the <strong>Notice</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Race</strong> and the Sailing Instructions,<br />

the Sailing Instructions prevail. This changes RRS 63.7 . The Sonar Class Association Rules are<br />

modified to allow each boat to carry a Kattack GPS device for the sole purpose <strong>of</strong> after-race<br />

replay and analysis.<br />

Eligibility and Crew<br />

The regatta is open to any boats <strong>of</strong> the Sonar Class eligible to race with a valid measurement<br />

certificate. The Person-in-charge and the Helmsman must be Active members <strong>of</strong> the SCA. The<br />

Person-in-charge and the Helmsman may be the same person. A boat is permitted to sail with<br />

different crew each day as originally submitted or revised on the entry form by midnight Sep 8th<br />

2011. If not specified or submitted until after Sep 8th a boat shall consist <strong>of</strong> the same people<br />

for the whole regatta unless a change is approved by the Jury in accordance with Class rule<br />

C.2.1 . The purpose <strong>of</strong> the deadline is to avoid the changing crew weights based on the sailing<br />

conditions.<br />

Entry<br />

Registration may be completed online at http://wyc.org/sonar/2011SonarNAs.aspx or in person<br />

on Thursday, September 22 from 1400-1700 at WYC.<br />

An early entry fee paid by 1700 August 01, 2011 will be $325. The entry fee after August 15, 2011<br />

but before 1700 September 02, 2011 will be $375. After September 2nd the entry fee will be<br />

$400. No registrations shall be accepted after 1700 on Thursday, September 22, 2011.<br />

Entry fee inclusions<br />

● Crane access at <strong>Wayzata</strong> <strong>Yacht</strong> <strong>Club</strong> and mooring or dockage for the duration <strong>of</strong> the regatta.<br />

● For All Participants;<br />

Thursday through Sunday: Free Beer & Pop<br />

Thursday Evening: Post <strong>Race</strong> Food from the grill or pizza will be available at WYC from $5<br />

Friday: Continental Breakfast & Post <strong>Race</strong> Snacks<br />

Saturday: Cocktails, Entertainment and Regatta Dinner (sailing attire or casual dress)<br />

(Four Saturday Dinner tickets included. Additional tickets $10 in advance $15 at the door)<br />

Sunday: Lunch and Snacks at the Awards Ceremony.


Measurement<br />

Sails must be measured, certified and carry certification marks. Sails shall comply with the class<br />

rules in force at the time <strong>of</strong> the initial fundamental measurement. Boats may be measured for<br />

compliance with the Class regulations and class rules. Measurements and required gear may be<br />

spot checked.<br />

Sailing Instructions<br />

The Sailing Instructions will be available by Thursday, Sep 22 and during packet pickup.<br />

Sunday, September 25<br />

No Original Warning Signal will be made after 1430 hours on Sunday, September 25th<br />

Racing Area<br />

All races will be held on Lower Lake Minnetonka.<br />

Series<br />

The Series will be raced over three days. Three races (per SCA B10.01) will constitute a series.<br />

Radio Communication<br />

The RC will make periodic hails before and during the race on VHF Channel 68. A hand held VHF<br />

radio strongly encouraged for all boats.<br />

Kattack<br />

Although not required we strongly encourage each participating boat to carry a Kattack<br />

supported GPS device for after-race replay and analysis. GPS devices provided by Kattack will be<br />

made available to you at regatta check in. A preauthorization deposit will be required.<br />

Prizes<br />

Prizes will be awarded to the skipper and crew <strong>of</strong> the top five finishers.<br />

Advertising<br />

Class Rules C.1 restricts advertising to Category C with limitations.


Media Rights<br />

By submitting an Entry Form, entrants and their crew give absolute right and permission for<br />

video footage, on line graphic displays or photographs <strong>of</strong> themselves and/or <strong>of</strong> their boat to be<br />

distributed in any media for press, editorial or advertising purposes.<br />

Disclaimer <strong>of</strong> Liability<br />

Entrants and their crew participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk<br />

(RRS 4, Decision to <strong>Race</strong>). The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material<br />

damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the<br />

regatta.<br />

Entrants will be required to sign a waiver <strong>of</strong> liability during registration.<br />

Insurance<br />

The safety <strong>of</strong> a boat and her entire management shall be the sole inescapable responsibility <strong>of</strong><br />

the owner or person in charge. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party<br />

liability insurance with a minimum coverage <strong>of</strong> $300,000 per event or the equivalent. Each yacht<br />

shall be covered by adequate Third party Damage and Personal Injury Liability insurance. The<br />

Person in Charge <strong>of</strong> each yacht may be required to produce evidence <strong>of</strong> Insurance upon demand.<br />

Housing<br />

gail.l.klein@gmail.com. Our expectation is that we will have the ability to accommodate all<br />

requests for housing. Every effort will be made to house teams in the same location and in close<br />

proximity to the yacht club. If you prefer commercial housing, Gail will be able to recommend<br />

accommodations.<br />
