EPILEGOMENA Seven is not a large proportion of the I ,500 or so Palpatores alive today, but it is greater than the fossil representation of the sub-order Laniatores, of which but a single species, Gongyleptes nemastomoides, was described by Koch and Behrendt. False scorpions have left a rather better record. There are more than a dozen families of living Pseudoscorpiones, and nine of these are represented by 18 species in Baltic amber. There is also a description of a Miocene species from Burma. It may be noted that in both Araneae and Pseudoscorpiones the number of fossil species known is about 1 of the total: in Opiliones it is less than one-fifth of this.
