This is Gerdau Sidenor, the biggest special steels producer in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.
About Gerdau Sidenor Gerdau Sidenor is a company, leader in the european steel industry for the production of special steel long products and one of the main producers of forged and cast pieces. It is also an important supplier of cold finished products in the European market. The company, part of Gerdau, one of the mayor producers of steel in the world, has production plants in Spain (in the Basque Country, Cantabria, Madrid and Cataluña). Our steel production capacity is around one million tonnes/ year, mainly for the automotive industry, machines and capital equipment, shipbuilding, civil, defence, energy, mining and petrochemical sectors. In addition, Gerdau Sidenor has one of the largest R & D centres in the steel industry in Europe; it undertakes technological developments to optimize processes and products, in our facilities as well as in those of our customers. Environment Environmental Management System A big area of concern for Gerdau is in its performance in the environment area. This concern is reflected in its daily practices, in the investments to upgrade equipment and in the programmes to stimulate environmental awareness. Following these principles, all the Company´s plants adopt an Environmental Management System (EMS, prepared in accordance with ISO14.001, audited annually by an external organisation, that establishes the analysis of hundreds of industrial activities). The aim is to guarantee the monitoring of the process throughout, from the use of raw materials through the industrial process and product distribution to the correct destination of waste/co-products generated in the process. 3
