1. The main cause of the rumors about Hannah started when the “Best Ass in the<br />

Freshman Class” and the “Whose hot, whose not” list stared to spread. Because of<br />

these lists Hannah became a sexual icon at her school. With the rumors started to pile<br />

up, Hannah gradually started to create a distance between her peers. People would<br />

make fun of her or use her and Hannah would no longer trust them. Hanna was in a<br />

situation where she could not open her mind to others, therefore she was not able to<br />

get mental help. Due to the fact that nobody could help her, Hannah believed that<br />

nobody cared for her. This lead to her death.<br />

2. Through this novel, the readers can see that the rumors that occurred at Hannah’s<br />

school brought her misery, leading to ones death. Though the rumors might start<br />

small, it will eventually grow bringing people to misunderstand that person. There is<br />

no limit to rumors, however the others have to control the rumors and think of that<br />

persons position.<br />

3. Honestly, what Mr. Porter did was wrong. He is suppose to make Hannah<br />

comfortable with Hannah approaching him and talking about the issues she has been<br />

through. Mr. Porter did question Hannah slowly to open up, but later on it seemed<br />

like he was forcing Hannah to talk about her issues. Also, when Hannah was standing<br />

up to leave, he should have done what ever it took to stop her and finish the<br />

discussion. He knew there was drama going on in Hannah’s life but did not try to<br />

solve it or help Hannah make the correct decision.<br />

4. While reading the novel, in one way it seemed like the students had planned<br />

everything out. For an example, during the Valentines Day event. The cheerleaders<br />

and Marcus could have planned Hannah to be Marcus’s Valentine’s and she the<br />

reaction of Hannah. Many of the characters might have volunteered to mess around<br />

with Hannah. However, some of the events seem so sudden that there would have<br />

been no time to plan, such as Jenny’s accident. Jenny was drunk and did not know<br />

what she was doing, which lead to the death of 2 people. Looking at this incident, the
