The cause of the start of Hannah’s reputation was by caused her kiss with Justin.
Although it was just a simple kiss with him, Justin spread out a rumor saying that they
did more than just a kiss. And this ruined Hannah’s reputation, as she was a new student
to the school and students didn’t really know who Hannah was. On page 30, Hannah
stated that, “A rumor based on a kiss started a reputation that other people believed in and
reacted to. And sometimes, a rumor based on a kiss has a snowball effect. A rumor based
on a kiss, is just the beginning.”
5. How does Hannah take these rumors and deal with them?
In the beginning Hannah reacted toward the rumors with indifference. However, as the
time past, she began to take the rumors seriously as she said, “A rumor based on a kiss
has a snowball effect.”(31) Snowball effect, meaning that something that started from an
insignificant event turned out to be some thing that is in-ignorable. So this tell us that
rumors that she didn’t care about eventually greatly affected her to a point where she had
to take the rumors seriously.
