Analysis<br />
Revenge was characterized from the cassette tapes because that is exactly what Hannah<br />
wanted to do to the people who had things to do with her death. in the beginning of the<br />
book, Clay Jenson, the narrator, says, “My stomach squeezes in on itself, ready to make<br />
me throw up if I let it” (Asher 10). This quote gave an idea on how the people who<br />
received the tapes felt, and by the reaction of Clay Jenson, one can really tell how bad it<br />
feels to receive such a cassette tape from a person who committed suicide.<br />
- Truth<br />
Example<br />
The Cassette tape also symbolizes the truth. In a world where Hannah is in, very lonely<br />
and cold, the rumors and lies about her deceives the people from looking at the absolute<br />
truth and the true story about Hannah and her life. Therefore, Hannah was very upset and<br />
alone, with nobody to trust. Everything started out from a small rumor about a kiss, but<br />
grew larger and larger, which eventually became something that Hannah couldn’t ignore.<br />
“...A rumor based on a kiss ruined a memory that I hoped to be special. A rumor based on<br />
a kiss started a reputation that other people believed in and reacted to. And sometimes, a<br />
rumor based on a kiss has a snowball effect” (Asher 30-31). This quote was mentioning<br />
how the rumor started out small, but like a snowball, got bigger and bigger into a lie that<br />
was so big, that it became a serious issue for Hannah. The cassette tape was the only<br />
thing Hannah had left to prove the rumors wrong and tell the people the true side of<br />
Hannah and how she really felt as well as who she really was. In retrospect, the cassette
