Final Project Ideas
Name ______________________
Directions: To choose what you will complete for your final Charlotte Doyle project, choose a tic-tactoe
path on the board below and complete the items in each box. You must go through the middle of
the board, but you can choose the path you travel. Directions for each project idea are included in
each box, but you can talk with Mrs.Thomas for a more detailed description or to clarify expectations.
Your final project items will be due at the beginning of class on Friday, Dec 11 th !!!
Character Interview
Pretend you are Charlotte, Jaggery,
Zachariah, or one of the other crew
members. Develop a set of interview
questions a news reporter would ask
your character at certain points in the
story. Working with a partner,
formulate answers to your questions.
Tape-record, video tape, or perform
your interview live. You must have at
least 15 questions with answers. The
answer must include factual
circumstances from the book and be
spoken in a way that reflects the
interviewed character’s personality.
Storm Soundtrack
From your own CD collection or from
the library, choose a selection of music
that you feel could accompany the
storm scene period when the Seahawk
sails through the hurricane. Find a
piece, or pieces, of music that you feel
musically represent the time before,
during, and after the storm. Play the
selection(s) for the class and explain
why you chose it.
Letter Home
Halfway through the book, Charlotte
decides to join the crew. Imagine that
you are Charlotte and write a letter to
your parents informing them of your
decision. The letter should include
your reasons for joining the crew and
discuss the events that led to your
decision. The letter should be between
1 and 2 typed pages long.
Movie Poster
Imagine that The True Confessions of
Charlotte Doyle is to be made into a
movie. Design a poster on tag-board
to advertise the movie. Your poster
should contain an illustration of one of
the movie’s scenes and describe the
plot in a way that will make us want to
see the movie. Look at current movie
posters online for ideas! Your poster
should also name the current movie
stars playing the main roles.
Book Jacket
Design a book jacket for The True
Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. On
the front cover, create an illustration
from your favorite scene in the book.
Include a quote to accompany the
cover illustration. Be sure to include
the author’s name. Write a summary
of the book for the back cover, and a
short biography of the author Avi for
one of the inside jacket flaps. This
must be neat, colorful, well written,
and professional looking.
Eulogy
A eulogy is a speech given at
someone’s funeral describing the kind
of person they were and how much
they meant to their friends and family.
It usually tells the virtues or strengths
of the person’s life. Use information
from the book to write a eulogy for
Zachariah from the perspective of one
of his shipmates. This could be in the
form of an essay, poem, or song.
Look in the newspaper for touching
real life examples.
Perform a Scene
Working with a partner, dramatize an
important scene from the book.
Memorize your lines and add
costumes and props to make your
scene look more realistic! You can
video tape your performance or
perform it live. Here are a few
example scenes:
• Charlotte and Mr. Grummage
arguing on the dock.
• Charlotte and the captain having tea.
• Charlotte and Zachariah discussing
their plan to make Jaggery confess.
Illustrated Timeline
Design an illustrated timeline. By
taping sheets of white construction
paper or computer paper together,
clearly and descriptively label and
illustrate 22 important story events in
The True Confessions of Charlotte
Doyle – one event from each chapter.
Be descriptive in your labels using
complete sentences to describe each
of the 22 events you choose. Your
illustrations should be neat, colorful,
and advance in chronological order.
Hurricane Report
Charlotte and her shipmates on the
Seahawk faced a hurricane during its
voyage. Write a report answering the
following question. What is the
difference between hurricanes,
typhoons, cyclones, and tornados?
Your report should be between 1½
and 3 pages typed. It should be free
of spelling and grammatical errors and
should include a bibliography citing the
sources used for your information.

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
