Back on the market
Speakmann has re-introduced its
Model 1 Anystream solid brass eight-jet
Product Profile
Shower solution
World’s largest mall
saves on maintenance,
reduces water bill
West Edmonton Mall is the largest
shopping facility in the world at 5.3
million square feet with more than
800 stores and services.
It is also home to Galaxyland (the world’s largest indoor amusement park),
World Waterpark (the world’s largest indoor wavepool) the Ice Palace (an
NHL-sized rink) and other attractions.
The facility has nearly 30 different public restroom areas, as well as
locker facilities, to accommodate up to 138,000 visitors each day.
Maintaining restrooms and locker rooms for a complex of this magnitude
is a daily challenge. Restroom renovations are considered a small project
and are part of an ongoing process.
West Edmonton’s primary problem was maintenance on its 60 shower
units in the locker rooms. “Our old showers were a maintenance nightmare
for costs and time,” reports Brian Mykitiuk, mall maintenance manager.
The facility management team began replacing the showers over the years,
trying a number of different models.
Some would work initially, but developed
drips and other problems over
time and proved too expensive to
repair.
Today, however, West Edmonton
Mall has replaced nearly all of its previous
showers with Bradley 1C-TT wall
shower units and plans to add another
Artistically inspired collection
The new Grazia line from Bach includes
a widespread lavatory faucet, tub and
shower fixtures and a Roman tub
faucet. Each is available in six finishes:
polished chrome, nickel or brass, satin
nickel, satin brass and oil-rubbed
bronze. Construction is solid brass with
ceramic disk valves. The line also
Shower maintenance is no longer an
ongoing nightmare for Brian Mykitiuk.
10-15 additional units once the retrofits
are completed. The 1C-TT units are
in-wall, individual showers with an
electronic push button and a chrome-plated brass showerhead.
These metered showers save on water use and energy costs by ensuring
that showers are not left running when not in use. Bradley’s Touch Time
valve controls water flow at each station to reliably meter shower water. This
push-button control with self-contained integral circuitry is a digital solid
state ‘brain’ that electronically controls the timing of one solenoid valve.
Showers are activated only when the push button is released, preventing
‘hold-open’ activation.
In addition, this unit features a number of vandal-resistant features. The
chrome-plated brass is very durable and there are no necks on the showerheads
that can be broken off. Units also do not have exposed fasteners, and
the security screws are made to stand up to tampering.
In the year-and-a-half since the Bradley shower units were installed, they
have required no maintenance, reported Mykitiuk. “There are no drips and
the shower rooms are dry…”
