This year marks THERMO’s 12th year of providing clients “The Thermo Advantage.” NEW PRODUCTS The newest additions to the THERMO family are THERMO-WALL PLATES and THERMO-DAMPERS. Used in duct installations, WALL PLATES attach to the outside wall plate to form a strong wall support that won’t separate. THERMO-DAMPERS provide a custom fit solution to installing dampers on the job site. Units come in 6” and 7” sizes, and trim to any size down to 3”. They are made from galvanized steel and feature a locking handle. These new products lines join THERMO’s other fine HVAC installation products: THE THERMO-PAN® FAMILY THERMO’s flagship product, THER- MO-PAN®, is the first innovative panning material in the industry since the advent of sheet metal. A fire-resistant variety is now available with a Class 1 fire rating. Pre-formed THERMO-HEADERS and THERMO-CONNECTORS combine with THERMO-PAN for professional, noise-free duct installations. THERMO LOW-E® THERMO LOW-E is a superior insulation product that stops up to 97% of radiant heat transfer. LOW-E is itchfree, non-toxic and contains no allergens, so no protective clothing or particle masks are needed during installation. Made of closed cell polyethylene foam, there are no bubbles to burst. The product absorbs no moisture, is lightweight, and carries a Class A/Class 1 fire rating. LOW-E can be used under concrete, between studs and joists, and as a duct wrap. THE BUTTON-LOK SYSTEM THERMO BUTTON-LOK is a userfriendly duct hanger strap made from high-density polyethylene that supports up to 50 pounds. THERMO-SADDLES combine with BUTTON-LOK to create the first complete flex duct hanging system. THERMO FRAMES THERMO-FRAMES are precisionmolded frames used to install return air grilles in dry wall. THERMO Snap-Plugs keep dirt and debris out of the duct system. THERMO Register Covers are for jobs where the HVAC system is in use during the construction process. They feature a built-in filter to keep dirt and debris out of the system, and can be installed either before or after the boot. OTHER THERMO SOLUTIONS Metal THERMO-BRACKETS with a PVC body nail into place between joists to hold round furnace pipes in place. THERMO-TWIST and THERMO VIBRATION BLOCKS are used to level furnaces and dampen condenser unit vibration. THERMO-BRACE ANGLES make it easy to install supply air wall stacks by allowing ceiling rafters to float. THERMO-CUTOFFS are underground register extensions that can be installed before concrete is poured, resulting in a perfect hole. THERMO-SNAP CLAMPS are precision-made plastic clamps in five sizes that allow one man to install line sets. Viessmann Manufacturing Company Inc. Training drives success for Viessmann and its customers Acomprehensive training program has been key in the North American sales success of Europe’s leading boiler manufacturer and its contractor customers. The leading edge technology in every Viessmann boiler and its related equipment offers numerous long-term benefits for today’s building owner who is struggling for solutions in the face of increasing energy costs and comfort requirements from end users. However, comprehensive product knowledge is essential for the contractor making the sale. “A lot of customers will spend more if you give them a good reason to do so,” noted Robert Waters, C.E.T., manager of product training and education, Viessmann Manufacturing Company Inc., Waterloo, Ont.. A good technical knowledge – and Viessmann seminars are technical to the point that they can be overwhelming at times – gives the contractor the ammunition he needs to convince the customer to spend more up front to save money over the long term. “It’s tough to sell a Viessmann product if you’ve never been to a seminar,” Waters commented. As well, update training is important. “Our product has changed so much in the past 10 years that you wouldn’t recognize it. Viessmann is a company that doesn’t stand still.” Viessmann is constantly looking at different ways to keep its installing contractors up to date. However, the primary focus is on Viessmann Academy programs in Waterloo, Ont., Langley, B.C. and Warwick, Rhode Island. The learning experience begins as soon as participants enter the building. “There’s a certain ‘Wow factor’ when you walk in the door,” notes Waters. A static display in the lobby includes cutaway versions of Viessmann boilers and other hydronic heating products. Every Viessmann Academy is home to an operating lab. “We have the ability to live-fire everything we sell.” There is a large well-equipped classroom. A control demonstration/teaching display dominates one wall. At the Waterloo plant, participants also tour the burner test labs and assembly plant. Seven different types of seminars are available at the Viessmann Academy in Waterloo this year, with similar programs in Langley and Warwick. Topics cover just about everything a contractor or technician needs to know to install and service efficient hydronic heating systems: • The Advanced Boiler Technology program, for example, offers a comprehensive overview of Viessmann Vitotec technology, its applications and design requirements. This full-day program is ideal for those who are either new to Viessmann products or require an update on the technology. • Condensing Boiler Technology covers just that, along with a brief overview of the Vertomat commercial boiler and a detailed look at the Vitodens wall-mounted gas-fired unit. • Viessmann offers separate Service and Troubleshooting programs for Viessmann residential and commercial boilers with a detailed review of hydronic system problems and solutions. • The Viessmann Control Technol- The new Vitotec product line. Many contractors can’t find time for training because they are running just to keep up with existing business. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
