ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Associate Professor William Wong MB ChB MPubHlth MD FRCGP FRACGP has research interests which include health beliefs and behaviour issues related to sexuality, men's health and infectious diseases in primary care. William took up a new post at Hong Kong University in October 2010. DEPARTMENT MANAGER Dr Helen McPartlan BSc DipBus SpecCertCR PhD is responsible for the daily management of the Academic Centre and supervises the team of professional staff. As a member of the Executive, Helen supports the Head of Department in the development and delivery of the Academic Centre's strategic and operational goals. IT AND INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGER Ms Vanessa Ho BSc GDipCompSc GDipAppSc CNE MCP is responsible for the Academic Centre's IT and physical infrastructure. She also provides desktop support to staff and students, as well as managing and maintaining the Academic Centre's website. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS Ms Val Mirabito provides general administrative, finance and human resources support in the Academic Centre, including assistance to the Department Manager. Ms Virginia Neal is responsible for providing executive support to the Head of Department and the Primary Care Research Unit. This includes publications coordination for the Academic Centre and administrative support for the Department's Human Ethics Advisory Group. page4
TEACHING AND LEARNING PROFESSOR OF GENERAL PRACTICE Professor Doris Young MB BS MD FRACGP is Professor and Chair of General Practice and Associate Dean, Academic, Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences. She is also the Director of Vocational Training program in the Academic Centre. Doris is The University of Melbourne's representative on the Board of Victorian Metropolitan Alliance (VMA) for GP Training. She oversees the GP academic registrars program in the Academic Centre. DIRECTOR, NEW CURRICULUM Dr Lena Sanci MB BS PhD DRANZCOG FRACGP is the Director of the Academic Centre's contribution to curriculum for the new graduate entry medical course, the MD. Her research interests are in young people's health in primary care and in trials of complex interventions in primary care. Current research in developing youth friendly practices has involved implementing and evaluating strategies for organisational change in primary care. DIRECTOR, UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Dr Ruth McNair MB BS PhD DA DRANZCOG FRACGP is Director of Undergraduate Programs. Her research interests include lesbian health, lesbian parenting and inter-professional education. Ruth completed a PhD study in 2009 on the patient-doctor relationship between same-sex attracted women and GPs, supported by a NHMRC scholarship. DIRECTOR, RURAL UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Reverend Dr Helen Malcolm MB BS MGPPsych DTM&H DTheol DA DCH DRANZCOG FRACGP is a senior lecturer at the Rural Clinical School in Shepparton and the General Practice and Primary Health Care Academic Centre. She is also a practising GP and Anglican priest. Her main clinical interests are mental health, stress management, women's health, rural medicine and travel/tropical medicine. Her research interests are in mental health and stress management and medical education, especially in the rural context. SENIOR LECTURERS IN RURAL GENERAL PRACTICE Dr Gary Bourke MB BS DRANZCOG FACRRM is a rural GP in Bendigo who supports and coordinates medical student education and Semester 12 clinical placements in central and northwest Victoria. Gary is interested in promoting the entry of Indigenous Australians into health and medical careers. Dr Iain Nicolson MB BS is a rural GP in Sale where he runs a busy general practice. Iain teaches and coordinates Semester 12 clinical placements in the Gippsland region and supervises academic registrars. His interests include occupational medicine and first aid training through St John Ambulance. Dr Rimas Liubinas MB BS DRACOG FRACGP is a rural GP located in Ballarat where he is responsible for supporting and coordinating medical student education and Semester 12 clinical placements in the Victoria Felix region. His interests include acupuncture and sports medicine. Rimas is also a mentor for a local intern. Dr Rod Taylor MB BS MFamMed DRACOG is a GP located in Geelong where he teaches and coordinates medical student education and Semester 12 clinical placements in the Barwon region. page5
