VicReN
VicReN is a primary care practice-based research network which links the Primary Care Research Unit (PCRU) and the
Victorian primary care practitioner community. VicReN was established in 2007 with a seeding grant from the Faculty of
Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne and with additional support provided through the
Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development Strategy.
VicReN champions the development of high quality research which is both important to primary health care and which can
inform policy and practice. It aims to build a strong and dynamic network of primary care practitioners and stakeholders with
an interest in research. VicReN is reflective of current practice, drawing membership from general practitioners, practice
nurses, practice managers and primary health care stakeholders across urban, regional and remote Victorian areas.
There are currently 133 VicReN members, consisting of 90 GPs, seven practice managers, five practice nurses and 31
primary health care stakeholders across 93 practices and organisations. The VicReN committee provides operational
guidance aligned with PCRU objectives. The committee members are able to draw on their wealth of experience and skills as
practitioners and their links to advocacy organisations.
