<strong>Principles</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Practice</strong> 2 (PCP2):<br />

<strong>Mini</strong>-<strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Evaluation</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong> (mini-CEX)<br />

You will undertake a minimum <strong>of</strong> six <strong>Mini</strong>-<strong>Clinical</strong> <strong>Evaluation</strong> <strong>Exercise</strong>s to a satisfactory standard during the semester<br />

(two each in Medicine, Surgery/Anaesthetics and Ambulatory/Emergency Rotating Terms). Of course, you may present<br />

more than six to your clinical teachers, but you are only required to hand in six, <strong>of</strong> which the best four will contribute<br />

20% to your final PCP2 mark.<br />

The <strong>Exercise</strong>s will be in the form <strong>of</strong> an observed clinical encounter with a patient. Not all <strong>of</strong> the seven areas <strong>of</strong><br />

assessment listed on the form will be assessed in every encounter. However, at least 4 <strong>of</strong> the 7 areas must be graded to<br />

qualify as a complete mini-CEX for the purposes <strong>of</strong> assessement<br />

It will be your responsibility to organize these exercises with appropriate clinical assessors, either at your clinical school<br />

or at a site connected with your Ambulatory Term. An example <strong>of</strong> the assessment form is provided on the following<br />

page. Completed forms should be handed in to the <strong>Clinical</strong> School Office.
