QUASI-STATIC CRACK GROWTH IN FRACTURE MECHANICS 13 6.2. Stiff vs weak inclusion. As before, the single edge crack is initiated at the left boundary and a weak (or stiff) inclusion with radius 0.1m is inserted at x = (0.75, 1.0) m. The dimensions of the body are the same as in example 1 with W = 1.0 m and h = 2.0 m. The elastic modulus of the bulk body was set to E = 1000 Pa, the weak inclusion to E = 1 Pa and the stiff inclusion to E = 1000000 Pa. The resulting crack trajectories can be seen in Figure 12 and Figure 13. As seen in the figures, the crack tends towards the weak inclusion and away from the stiff inclusion. Figure 12.
