Exposure to second-hand smoke at home in <strong>the</strong> past week in households with at<br />
least one child, by neighbourhood deprivation<br />
In households in <strong>the</strong> most deprived areas with one or more children aged 0–14 years<br />
living <strong>the</strong>re, <strong>the</strong> age-standardised prevalence <strong>of</strong> at least one resident having smoked<br />
anywhere inside <strong>the</strong> house in <strong>the</strong> past week was found to be over five times that in <strong>the</strong><br />
least deprived areas (Figure 68).<br />

Time trends for exposure to second-hand smoke at home in <strong>the</strong> past week in<br />
households with at least one child<br />
There was no significant difference between 2008 (12.3%, 10.8–13.9) and <strong>2009</strong> (10.3%,<br />
8.6–11.9) in <strong>the</strong> age-standardised prevalence <strong>of</strong> households with one or more children<br />
aged 0–14 years living <strong>the</strong>re that had at least one resident who smoked anywhere<br />
inside <strong>the</strong> house in <strong>the</strong> past week.<br />
For <strong>the</strong> households <strong>of</strong> Māori respondents with at least one child aged 0–14 years living<br />
with <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>re was no significant difference between 2008 (22.3%, 17.3–27.2) and<br />
<strong>2009</strong> (20.9%, 16.8–24.9) in <strong>the</strong> age-standardised prevalence <strong>of</strong> having at least one<br />
resident smoke anywhere inside <strong>the</strong> house in <strong>the</strong> past week (graphs not shown).<br />
