Page 12 The Catholic Register, July 16, 2012 Saint Joseph Sisters With Local Ties Are Jubilarians Four Sisters of Saint Joseph of Baden with local ties are celebrating jubilees this year. Sister Mildren (Ildephonse) Boeh is marking 80 years in religious life. For nearly 60 years, Sister Mildred served school children in the Dioceses of Altoona - Johnstown, Greensburg and Pittsburgh. She served at Holy Name School in Ebensburg, and also ministered in Ohio and Georgia. “Over the years, I enjoyed instilling the love of God, love of neighbor and church and all of God’s creation into the hearts of children,” she says. Even at age 99, Sister Mildred lives by the inspiring words of her Sister teachers: “Forget self and be always what God wants you to be.” Sister Mary Cordia Grimes is celebrating 75 years as a Sister of Saint Joseph. SISTER MILDRED BOEH C.S.J. For more than 30 years, Sister Mary Cordia served in education; she was assistant principal/high school teacher at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, Ebensburg, and with a specialty in Latin, she also SISTER CORDIA GRIMES C.S.J. SISTER JUDITH KENAAN C.S.J. taught at Bishop McCort Catholic High School, Johnstown and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, Altoona. As moderator of the Sacred Heart Club at Bishop McCort, Sister Mary Cordia recalls making an extra effort to support girls who felt called to religious life. She continues to reach out and help others through her volunteer efforts. Sister Judith (Patricia) Kenaan is a 50 year jubilarian. Since 2009, Sister Judith has served as Director of Religious Education at Saints Simon and Jude (Scott Township). In the Diocese of Altoona - Johnstown she served as principal of Sacred Heart School, Altoona, and as a teacher at Holy Name School, Ebensburg. Sister Judith, who finds joy in singing and being in the woodlands, credits her family’s faith and a 12-year education from the Sisters of St. Joseph for nurturing her vocation. Also celebrating 50 years is Sister Genevieve (Elizabeth Ann) Martineck, who says that renewing her vows each morning inspires her to “always move toward profound love of God and neighbor without distinction.” With a spirit of “gentleness, peace and joy,” Sister Genevieve has served for nearly 25 years as the Associate Catholic Chaplain at the Ebensburg Center, a state facility that provides care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. Her calming voice and comforting presence provide encouragement, spirituality and joy to the center’s residents and staff. She previously served 14 years as a nurse at the Georgetown Medical Center Hospital in Washington, D.C., a campus minister at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and coordinatorof Cambodian refugees for the Congregation.

Bishop Mark noted that many of the people who had marveled when the Lord as a boy of 12 taught in the temple in Jerusalem, turned away from him when as a 30 - year - old carpenter he preached in his home town synagogue. But, he noted “The same word of God that Jesus preached in the temple of Jerusalem as a young boy, or as an adult in the synagogue at Nazareth, is the word of God that is shared with us today. That word of God has never changed.” He further reflected “It may be a challenge for us to believe basic truths and it may be a challenge for us to believe because of changing perceptions or preferences. But even if we are not sure because of those challenges, we can always be sure of the person of Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Savior.” His delight again coming to the fore, Bishop Mark concluded his homily by saying “That’s why our coming together as a family of faith is something worth celebrating on this Family Faith Day at the ballpark. Let’s hear it again for the abundant faith that we celebrate today.” And with that, the members of the Bishop’s flock gave another rousing cheer, coupled with thunderous applause, giving witness to the faith that drew them together. OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish, Portage, celebrated Confirmation on Friday, May 18.
