• Introduction of new guidelines for referrals for various forms of surgery<br />

(bariatric, back, arthritic knee, shoulder) <strong>and</strong> other guidelines are being<br />

developed (2011, 2012).<br />

Waiting times<br />

• Guaranteed maximum waiting time for hospital treatment increased from<br />

one to two months (2013); the increase does not apply to patients with more<br />

severe diseases but, unlike previous guarantees, it will also apply to mental<br />

<strong>health</strong> care (previously there was no waiting time guarantee for mental care<br />

needs); patients were given the right to diagnosis within four weeks (2013).<br />

Health promotion <strong>and</strong> prevention<br />

• Taxes on beer <strong>and</strong> wine increased by 25% <strong>and</strong> 55%, respectively (2012).<br />

• Taxes on cigarettes rose by DKK 3 per pack (2012).<br />

• Tax on saturated fats <strong>and</strong> sugars introduced in 2011 was rescinded (2013).<br />

• Budget cuts for the Health Promotion Foundation by DKK 300 million<br />

(2011).<br />

• Extra funds of DKK 300 million allocated to municipal <strong>health</strong> promotion<br />

<strong>and</strong> rehabilitation for the elderly <strong>and</strong> patients with chronic diseases (2013).
