<strong>Maryville</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s faculty members and staff contribute significantly to enhancing <strong>Maryville</strong>’s reputation by providing<br />

expert commentary on contemporary issues in the news. Since June, faculty members and staff have been quoted in more than<br />

93 print, radio, and television news stories.<br />

As a result of these story placements, nearly 8 million people have learned more about <strong>Maryville</strong> <strong>University</strong>. This circulation<br />

amounts to $3,037,151 in advertising equivalency dollars, or, according to experts in public relations, the exposure is seven<br />

times more valuable than paid advertising and is worth $21.2 million to the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

During the past 12 months, the marketing and public relations generated media exposure that reached a circulation of 28.1<br />

million ($41.4 million in advertising value).<br />

Below is a sample of nine experts who participated during the past six months.<br />

Linda Lindsey, Ph.D., professor of sociology, was quoted on<br />

gender correctness in the Chicago Sun Times, on Bromance<br />

in the Chicago Tribune, and on women and marriage on<br />

NPR.<br />

<strong>Mark</strong> Lombardi, Ph.D., president, participated in numerous<br />

relations, participated in many news interviews ranging<br />

from the <strong>University</strong>’s speakers series and campus safety in<br />

the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to leading an effective public<br />

relations office by CASE Magazine.<br />

Kent Bausman, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology and<br />

director of social sciences, conducted an interview with the<br />

Lancaster Times.<br />

Jennifer McCluskey, Ph.D., director of retention initiatives,<br />

was interviewed by the USA Today on college retention<br />

across the United States. <strong>Maryville</strong>’s retention rate of 82<br />

percent is one of the highest among St. Louis Universities.<br />
