IBS 652 International Business Environment<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 601<br />

As global economic growth occurs, understanding business environment in all cultures is increasingly important.<br />

This course, International Business Environment, addresses global issues and describes concepts relevant to all<br />

international business executives, regardless of the extent of their international involvement. An<br />

environmental/cultural approach to international business permits a truly global orientation. The business<br />

executive’s horizons are not limited to any specific nation or to the particular ways of doing business in a<br />

single nation. Instead, the businessman should identify and analyze the important cultural and environmental<br />

uniqueness of any nation or global region. Thus, when surveying the tasks of business in a foreign milieu, the<br />

impact of crucial cultural issues will not be overlooked. Special attention will be given to The World geography in<br />

focusing on countries and regions and their special characteristics. The World as consisting of developed-,<br />

emerging-, and undeveloped markets will be investigated. Patterns of Cross- Cultural Business Behavior will be<br />

looked at. Key subjects of the course are: World geography; world environment (natural resources, political-,<br />

social-, religious-, economic environment); emerging economies; market regions and market groups; Triad (US-<br />

Japan-Europe), cross- cultural business behavior; topical global subjects.<br />

IBS 699 Special Topics in International Business<br />

Prerequisite: MIS 601<br />

This course shall provide critical analysis of current trends and issues in international business theory, research,<br />

and practice. Emphasis shall also be on the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of contemporary international<br />

business issues <strong>with</strong> specific reference to UAE and GCC countries. The syllabus will be prepared by a competent<br />

faculty member and must be approved by the Chair of the Department.<br />

MGT 501 Management Concepts and Theories<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

This course exposes students the concepts and theories of management. It focuses on management principles<br />

and theories and how these principles and theories are applied in managing organization.<br />

MGT 601 Managerial Leadership<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 501<br />

Organizational leadership is the process of influencing other people to achieve organizational goals. This<br />

leadership course reviews and builds upon the basic knowledge of leadership provided in principles of<br />

management course by expanding the scope and depth of the student's knowledge of leadership theories, by<br />

providing practice in basic leadership skills, and by developing the student's self-knowledge of his or her preferred<br />

leadership styles.<br />

MGT 602 Legal and Ethical Aspects of Management<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 501<br />

This course develops and utilizes critical thinking skills in examining the environment of legal, political, and<br />

regulatory processes as they pertain to profit and nonprofit organizations and their impact on management<br />

decisions in relation to the general public, employees, customers, competitors, suppliers, and the wider national<br />

and international community. Emphasis also is given to specifics of formulating, negotiating, and enforcing<br />

contracts; anticipating, neutralizing, and defending against liabilities; evaluating the various forms of business<br />

ownership and investment modes; incorporating government regulations and decisions; and working <strong>with</strong><br />

attorneys and the legal/regulatory system. This course will provide balanced, in-depth coverage of controversial<br />

and timely topics in the areas of law and ethics <strong>with</strong>in the business environment. Its goal is to bring to life the<br />

complex situations where business imperatives, legal rules, and ethical concepts collide, and to give students the<br />

tools for and practice <strong>with</strong> making some of the tough ethical choices and decisions they may be confronted<br />

<strong>with</strong> as business managers.<br />

MGT 603 Strategic Management<br />

Prerequisite: ACT 601, FIN 601, MGT 601 and MKT 601<br />

This course is intended to be a challenging and exciting capstone course for the Business Administration<br />

curriculum. It is first and foremost a course about ―strategy and about ― managing for success. The course<br />

centers on the theme that a company achieves sustained success if and only if its managers (1) have an astute,<br />

timely strategic game plan for running the company, and (2) implement and execute the plan <strong>with</strong> proficiency.<br />

We shall explore in some depth how and why a well-conceived well-executed strategy nearly always enhances a<br />

company‘s long-term performance<br />
