<strong>ALHOSN</strong> UNIVERSITY ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE<br />

Board of Trustees<br />

The Board of Trustees oversees and supports the management of the academic and administrative<br />

operations of the <strong>University</strong>. The Board derives its authority from the collective agreement of the<br />

entire Board, and not of individual members. Board members participate actively in the duties of the<br />

Board, exercise critical and independent judgment, and communicate to the Chair any significant<br />

concern regarding the operations of the Board or <strong>University</strong>. The Board reviews and approves the<br />

general policies, budget allocation, and major contracts and appointments.<br />

Chancellor<br />

The Chancellor, the highest ranking officer in the <strong>University</strong>, is in charge of advancing the <strong>University</strong>’s<br />

welfare, image and reputation in the United Arab Emirates and internationally. The Chancellor presents<br />

the general policies of the <strong>University</strong> at home and abroad, confers degrees awarded by the <strong>University</strong><br />

to students; and provides guidance to the implementation of the general policies of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Vice Chancellor<br />

The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the <strong>University</strong>. The Vice Chancellor must<br />

hold a PhD <strong>with</strong> a track record in teaching, research and leadership. The Vice Chancellor is<br />

responsible for the <strong>University</strong>’s academic, administrative and community affairs, and he/she supervises<br />

the execution of its by-laws, regulations and policies, and represents it before the courts and other<br />

bodies. The Vice Chancellor deputizes the Chancellor in his/her absence.<br />

Provost<br />

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of the <strong>University</strong>, and is responsible for monitoring<br />

the overall academic affairs of the <strong>University</strong>, including implementation of academic policies,<br />

curricula, academic support services, and educational technology. He/she reports directly to the Vice<br />

Chancellor and works closely and in harmony <strong>with</strong> the Deans and Departmental Chairs. The Provost<br />

also performs other duties the Vice Chancellor may assign or delegate to him/her. The Provost deputizes<br />

the Vice Chancellor in his/her absence.<br />

Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs<br />

The Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs reports directly to the Vice Chancellor and is<br />

responsible for overseeing and implementing all financial and administrative arrangements of the<br />

<strong>University</strong>. His/her duties also include the development of the long-range plan for facilities operation,<br />

forecast fiscal needs, manage annual operating budgets, and perform periodic cost and productivity<br />

analyses.<br />

Dean of Student Affairs<br />

The Dean of Student Affairs is responsible for maintaining the well-being of students, managing<br />

student learning and development opportunities, community service, career advice, sport activities,<br />

complaints, scholarships and financial aid to students. He/she reports directly to the Provost.<br />

Registrar<br />

The Registrar is responsible under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs for providing quality<br />

student service in the area of registration, tuition assessment and academic records, and to insure the<br />

confidentiality and accuracy of student records. This includes coordinating the preregistration,<br />

completion, registration and drop/add. The registrar shall insure compliance <strong>with</strong> student records<br />

policy, produce official student lists, reports, statistics, collect grades from faculty, prepare, publish,<br />

distribute class and examination schedules, assign classrooms.<br />
