agement by DM 3.1 bn. in 1989 to DM 19.2 bn.<br />

There was growing interest in the securities funds<br />

Open to the public which are managed by <strong>Deutsche</strong><br />

Vermögensbildungsgesellschaft mbH, Bad Hom-<br />

burg V. d. H., and are designed especially to suit our<br />

corporate customers; the company manages assets<br />

totalling DM 350 m.<br />

Risk management with DTB options<br />

On the launch of <strong>Deutsche</strong> Terminbörse (DTB) on<br />

January 26, 1990 we became actively involved as<br />

market-maker in electronic trading in options on 14<br />

high-turnover German equities. Our brokerage service<br />

seeks to meet therequirements of private and institutional<br />

investors and offers numerous alternative<br />

methods of efficient risk management using futures<br />

and options.<br />

More than 1.5 million customer<br />

safe-custody accounts<br />

In the Group there were more than 1.5 million cus-<br />

tomer safe-custody accounts on our books. At the<br />

end of 1989, their market value came to approx.<br />

DM 226 bn. Within the framework of our Computer-<br />

based information systems we offer our domestic<br />

customers terminal accecs to all safe-custody ac-<br />

Count holdings. lnquiries can be made and or<strong>der</strong>s<br />

given at 20,000 terminals.<br />

5. lssuing business<br />

We maintained our leading in domestic<br />

arid foreign issuing business.<br />

In the Fe<strong>der</strong>al Republic.. .<br />

We participated in 56 capital increases for cash<br />

with a volume of DM 10.4 bn. and in 15 scrip issues.<br />

We introduced the shares of 9 companies to the<br />

stock exchange and took Part in 4 other new listings.<br />

Altogether, shares which raised a total of approx.<br />

DM 1.2 bn. were placed in the market.<br />

. . . and internationally<br />

The eurobond market reached a new record vol-<br />

ume in 1989 with over 1,500 issues. In the face of con-<br />

tinued strong competition, we once again took a<br />

leading position among the euro-issuing houses. In<br />

international issuing business, we participated in a<br />

management capacity in 563 eurobonds with a vol-<br />

ume of approx. $ 108 bn., which included 99 deals<br />

denominated in D-Marks. We acted as lead manager<br />

and book-runnerfor half of the first global bond issue<br />

of the World <strong>Bank</strong> in the amount of $ 1.5 bn., which<br />

was syndicated worldwide.
