San Pedro Apóstol, belleza arquitectónica colonial, con
valor histórico antiguo. En el interior del marco en la
parte superior aparecen las llaves patronales de San
Pedro Apóstol Maltrata, que como sabemos es el
nombre que lleva la población desde la colonia hasta
nuestros días. Hacia el interior del marco y de la parte
media hacia arriba aparecen las palabras: HISTORIA.-
Por la gran riqueza histórica de nuestro pueblo, la
conocida y la aún por conocer ya que es un pueblo en
el que se han suscitado grandes acontecimientos.
PROGRESO.- Por que es lo que deseamos para un
pueblo tan grande en historia y con tanta gente noble e
inteligente y una tierra tan generosa. Cuentan que en
tiempos de MOCTEZUMA al negarse a pagar tributo por
orden directa del emperador, mando quemar el pueblo,
ya que los moradores demostrando su carácter
aguerrido y pensamiento independentista se negaron
a contribuir, de este hecho se desprende el otro
nombre que se le ha dado a la población
"MATLATLAC" (MALTRATA) o pueblo que arde, Maltrata
pueblo de historia, pueblo de progreso y de libertad
de credo (lo pagano y lo divino), además de lo
tradicional. Siendo estas tierras motivo de luchas
por la repartición justa de las cuales se recuerdan
algunos mártires.
