computadoras y reproductores MP3, muchas personas
jóvenes no tienen que utilizar su imaginación. No suelen
difícil imaginando diferentes personas, lugares o acontecimientos,
How to teach children to use their imagination
In a culture where children have access to their own mobile
phones, game consoles, computers and MP3 players, many
young people do not have to use their imagina on. They do
not usually imagine fantasy worlds because their video games
or computer already have mys cal elements. It is important
for children to use their imagina on, in part because it allows
them to understand the history,
other cultures and other people.
Par cipa on in reading, art, drama and games
helps develop the imagina on of children.
1 - Read stories, fairy tales or popular stories, with or to
children so they can begin to imagine different scenarios in
their heads. Read to children aloud, using different voices to
contrast the emo ons and the characters and answer their
ques ons about the different events and characters to help
create images of what is happening in the story.
2 - tell a fic onal story with fantasy elements that children
have to imagine using fic onal elements as dragons,
kings or queens.
3 - Introduce topics that children are interested in to let them
hear the story. Involve young people to tell a story by star ng
it and you con nuing it them. Let the kids introduce any topic
in the story they want, as long as it is appropriate. Ask them
details about people or events so they can begin to think
about the details related to its characters or events. Guide
children in the technical aspects of drawing or pain ng but let
them believe what they want, even if it is an animal with many
colors. Keep the children’s game when they interpret
something, like an imaginary friend. Tell them about the
cone characters Santa Claus or Easter Bunny
to ac vate their imagina on.
Be pa ent with children when working with them to develop
their imagina on as they could go through a difficult me
imagining different people, places or events, especially if it
has not been asked before to visualize fantas c people
or events and do it, it will be exci ng.
