Crestview FFA and FFA Alumni News
State Convention—Perhaps one of the best things about being an FFA
member is wearing corduroy jackets in hot weather. Crestview FFA battled the
heat on May 3 rd and 4 th in official dress at the 84 th State FFA Convention at the Ohio State
Fairgrounds. The members departed from Crestview High School Thursday morning
attended a leadership workshop and the first session of the convention. At this session
Crestview FFA member, Abby Motter, was recognized for placing 4 th at state in extemporaneous
public speaking. Afterwards, members checked in their hotel and enjoyed swimming
in the indoor pool. Later the students ate dinner at Champs before they visited the
OSU Planetarium at Smith Laboratories. At the planetarium members got to view stars,
constellations and planets that can be seen in the night sky. On Friday, members attended
sessions three, four, and five the of State Convention. During these sessions Crestview
FFA was recognized as a Gold Medal Chapter. To receive this award a chapter must fulfill
certain requirements set by the National FFA Association and be heavily involved with the community. Several members also received
recognition, 2011-2012 Crestview FFA Officer, Gretchen Sauder, received a gold star rating for her treasurer book and fellow
officer, Garrett Searl, also received a gold star rating for his secretary book. Also being recognized were members who received
their state degree. This year five Crestview FFA Members received their state degrees, they are: Caity Campbell; Megan Shoup;
Lindsay Shoup; Luke Grauer; and, Katlyn Hulit. Receiving a State Degree is a high honor in the FFA. To receive a state degree
members must invest and earn money in their SAE, participate in community service, develop leadership skills and be active in their
FFA chapter. Despite the heat, Crestview FFA Members had a good time attending the State Convention.
P A G E 3
Crestview HS News ~ Mr. Scott Will, Principal
The 2011-2012 school year saw a great deal of transition at the high school with a new schedule, building initiatives
and the simple fact that the year flew by with a virtually non-existent winter. Once again the high school saw success on
the OGT’s and we continue to look at ways to improve our scores while focusing on the upcoming changes to end-ofcourse
exams and the new Common Core standards adopted by the State of Ohio. This fall we will kick off the year
with our 2nd Annual Meet the Team/Open House on Thursday, August 16, 2012 starting at the high school stadium at
6:00 PM. We are excited to serve your students in the final chapters of their educational experiences at Crestview. We
hope you enjoy your summer! GO COUGARS!
Senior Class of 2012 Donates Class Gift
Crestview Schools Family Intervention Team (FIT) would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the Senior Class of
2012 for donating their Class Gift to the FIT Team. The FIT partners with many of our local social service agencies and local
churches. The team was formed eight years ago with the goal of helping students and families meet their needs at home so that our
students could come to school ready to learn. The FIT team meets several times throughout the school year to discuss how we can
best meet needs for Crestview families, our schools, and the community.
Through our partnerships, we gain knowledge of many resources that are available that we can then share with families who
can benefit from them. These partnerships and organizations also have helped our families in many other way ways including:
boy’s group leaders, school supplies, holiday gift-giving & meals, clothing, rent and utility assistance, food pantry, home weatherization,
counseling services, case management, winter coats, shoes, dictionaries, food and snacks for Family Nights and so much more.
We are honored to receive this gift from the Class of 2012. Their legacy of kindness and generosity will go far in continuing
A Friendly Reminder for Parents ~ Up-to-Date Immunization Record Needed
A reminder that students beginning 7 th grade in the fall of 2012 will be required to have a Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and
pertussis) vaccine before the start of the school year. The vaccine contains protection against pertussis, or whooping
cough, a severe respiratory illness that causes violent rapid coughing that can last for extended periods of time. It is spread by
coughing and sneezing. Cases of whooping cough mostly occur in school settings and nearly doubled in Ohio between 2008 and
2009.
An updated immunization record must be turned in to the middle school office by August 22, 2012, in order for a student
to be eligible to attend school. Any 7 th grade student who does not have proof of this immunization by September 11, 2012, will be
excluded from school until we have an updated immunization record. For special exemptions please refer to ORC 3313.671.
The summer months will provide ample time for parents to get their children’s immunizations up-to-date. We encourage
you to contact your personal physician, the Ashland County Health Department (419-282-4317) or the Mansfield-Ontario-Richland
County Health Department (419-774-4540) to set up an appointment or get the times of clinic hours.
The middle school office will be closed for the month of July and will re-open on August 1, 2012. You may drop off your
child’s updated immunization record at the Crestview Board of Education office during Summer office hours located on page 8 of
this newsletter.

CAFETERIA NEWS
Lunch Price Increase Due to
requirements in the Healthy, Hunger-
Free Kids Act of 2010, we will be
raising the price of an Elementary
lunch from $2.30 to $2.35 and the
Middle & High Schools from $2.50 to
$2.55 for the 2012-2013 school year.
EZpay – Last year, many parents
took advantage of paying for school
fees and lunches by using EZpay, our
on-line payment system. All you need
is your student’s 6-digit ID number,
click on the EZpay link on the
C r e s t v i e w w e b s i t e a t
(www.crestviewschools.net) and you
can set up an account. Even if you
don’t pay for lunches or school fees
using EZpay, you can still set up an
EZpay account to view your student’s
lunch account balance or view their
lunch history. You can obtain your
student’s 6-digit ID number by contacting
the Food Service department at
419-895-1700, ext. 5002 or by calling
the secretary in your student’s building.
NOTE: There is a convenience
charge of $2.00 each time you use the
EZpay system to make a payment.
Charging Lunches – Our guidelines
for lunch charges will remain the
same. Only a complete lunch may be
charged – no ala carte items may be
charged. Students in the Elementary
are allowed three charges; Middle
School two charges; and High School
one charge. When a charge is paid, a
student is then eligible to charge
again.
Free & Reduced Meals – Free and
Reduced applications will be sent
home with your children on the first
day of school. They should be available
on the school web site in early
August. If you are direct certified,
you will receive a letter from the Food
Service Department during August
and you will not need to fill out an
application even though one will still
come home with your student(s).
