BENEFITS OF YOGA<br />

As your body relaxes, all our muscles also relax except those muscles.<br />

Aged and persons having diseases can also do these movements<br />

without much strain.<br />

REQUIREMENT FOR STARTING YOGA<br />

1. Children under the of 12 years should not be<br />

practicing yoga postures for long duration.<br />

2. Every day you have to practice Yoga for at least<br />

30 to 45 minutes.<br />

3. The best suited time to practice is early morning<br />

hours.<br />

4. Food restrictions, the stomach should be empty<br />

while practicing yoga.<br />

5. The place should be spacious, clean, airy, bright<br />

and away from disturbances.<br />

6. Yoga should not be practiced on the bare floor,<br />

instead use a mat or carpet.<br />

7. Clothes should be comfortable, loose, clean.<br />

Undergarments are necessary.<br />

8. Yoga prefers vegetarian diet. Avoid spicy and hot<br />

diet.<br />

9. Women should not practice Yoga during<br />

Pregnancy and menstruation.<br />

WHAT ARE ASANAS<br />

1. Asana is the 3rd in Ashtanga Yoga, Yogasana help<br />

to achieve physical health, control over the mind and<br />

power of concentration.<br />

2. Patanjali has described Yogasana as “Sthir<br />

Sukham Asanam”, which means a posture that is<br />

stable and pleasant.<br />

3. A broader definition of Yogasana according to<br />

Patanjali is “Tatodwanabhighatah” which means the<br />

practice of Yogasana leads to the disappearance<br />

of the duality of cold-hot, sadness-joy, happinesssorrow<br />

and so on.<br />

4. Yoga is different from exercise as it is very slow<br />

and steady movements.<br />

5. Yoga helps to achieve relaxation, which reduces<br />

stress and strain.<br />

6. Very few calories are consumed during Yogasana<br />

practice and metabolism rate of the body drops,<br />

which means reduced Aging Process.<br />

7. Less food is required as digestive power is<br />

increased.<br />

WARMING UP FOR YOGA<br />

Yoga practices create a lot of strain on different organs or parts of the body. Our body should have enough<br />

strength to bear this, one can build this stamina through practice. The preparatory movements provide the<br />

necessary strength and prepare the whole body for Yogasana.<br />
