Mookhey, who is born in the year<br />
1982 is an Australian politician.<br />
He has been a Labor member of the<br />
New South Wales Legislative Council<br />
from 6th May <strong>2015</strong>, when he was<br />
appointed to fill a vacancy caused<br />
by Steve Whan’s resignation. Born in<br />
Blacktown in Western Sydney and<br />
raised in Merrylands, to Indian migrant<br />
parents from Punjab, Mookhey is the<br />
first parliamentarian in the Australian<br />
history to be sworn into the office on<br />
the Bhagavad Gita. Daniel Mookhey<br />
pledged his loyalty by swearing on the<br />
Srimad Bhagavad Gita, a 700-verse<br />
Hindu scripture whose title translates<br />
to “SONG OF THE LORD”.<br />
32-year-old Mookhey is from the Labor’s right wing, has worked as a management<br />
consultant and was the 2013 federal campaign director of the Australian Council of<br />
Trade Unions. NSW Parliament holds copies of the Bible, the Koran and the Torah,<br />
however, Mr Mookhey brought his own copy of the text known as the Srimad Bhagavad<br />
Gita. “It’s incredibly humbling to be the first Australian parliamentarian to swear his oath<br />
of allegiance on the Srimad Bhagavad Gita,” he said before the ceremony. “It was a very<br />
