Mainly Music is where parents and caregivers bring their children for a thirty-minute session of music, rhyme, movement, listening and more. It has been specifically set up as a time when parents can spend ‘time’ with their children. Many activities today allow parents to leave their children while they spend time by themselves. The compilation of songs and actions are cleverly formulated to encourage bonding with the adult, whilst developing the children’s motor skills, spatial, reading and word association and so much more! At this session, adults and children are given snacks and refreshments. This allows time for children to enjoy each other’s company, and to develop social skills. In addition it enables those adults who don’t have a wide circle of friends to be introduced to others who have young children and they are therefore able to support each other. Here is some of what is gained by coming to Mainly Music: 5 Music & Action – Children appreciating music & extending their musical abilities Building better relationships with parents, caregivers & families Place for parents of small children to connect, breaking isolation Providing a visibility to parenting and highlighting the value of being a parent Sharing a cuppa & snacks with the aim of building friendships Improving social skills Improving fine & motor skills Spatial awareness Introducing exercise to a family’s schedule in a fun way Bonding games & exercises Language Development Learning ‘God-songs’ MAINLY MUSIC There is a Christ-Centred Family Care component in the larger Mainly Music programs, where families are supported when hurting, through marriage or relationship breakups, miscarriage, when a partner or child dies, supporting those with police involvement and unconditional positive regard. Mainly Music provides an environment where young children develop skills to enhance their early education, through the use of music, rhythm, rhyme, and other music related activities with the participation of a parent or primary caregiver. In short, Mainly Music is an opportunity for adults and young children to build memories and spend time together, sharing special time with each other, whilst reinforcing good behaviour.
