Camp 1 – Girls, saying goodbye lamentations On Tuesday, children arrived for the two day camp. God has a good sense of humour. I really, really don’t like feet at all and my responsibility when the children arrived was to measure their feet for new shoes. York Street Overseas Missions Committee Then there was face painting and we played games and songs and had a memory verse to remember and recite – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth Gen 1:1. We went into groups and were given a verse from Genesis about creation. We had five children and a teacher in each group and we had to act it out. It was great, even though there was a language barrier. We were able to recite a verse about God creating the livestock and animals and we acted like animals and made sounds. The girls I had, got so into it. Henry Deutscher Aaron Luttrell Over the two days, there were two girls I really connected with. I played soccer with them and tried to teach them how to kick and hand ball an AFL football. I just felt so connected to them even though again there was a language barrier. They just touched my heart. On the last day as we said ‘bye I cried so much. I had an overwhelming mothering instinct that when I was hugging them that I really, really didn’t want to let them go. I didn’t know or could imagine the hardships they were facing back home but I had to let them go. After we said goodbye I was an emotional wreck so I went and spent time with God and with my Bible. I just poured out all my emotion and my heart to him. I realised it’s a total trust thing that they were in God’s arms before they were in mine. Now they have left me, they continue to be in His arms. The love I feel for them is only a glimpse into the love God has for these precious children. He is their loving father. Then I felt I really needed to read my Bible. I feel that God gave me these passages Psalm 121:1-3 and Lamentations 3:19-24 . A couple of days later two of us were sitting with Adam and looking at his photos and his stories. He said something that really stuck me, “After you meet people in the community and go back and read the word, the words in the Bible become so real, especially Lamentations!” I was gob smacked. He pretty well explained what God had done in my heart. So when we were alone later I mentioned, “I’m glad you said that because I had that very experience the other day with a couple of verses in Lamentations.” He asked to look at the verses and said they were the same verses God had given him.
