3 Nephi Chapter 13
MEN TO BE JUDGED BY THE WRITTEN WORD, VER. 1-11
3 Ne 13:2 For behold, out of the books which have been written, and which shall be written, shall this
people be judged, for by them shall their works be known unto men.
Jesus had just admonished the disciples to "write the things which ye have seen and heard. .. write
the works of this people" (1). "Out of the books which shall be written, shall the world be judged"
(3). “Ye shall be judges of this people” (4). These twelve disciples shall sit to judge the Nephites
and Lamanites, just as the twelve apostles shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel (Matt. 19:28).
3 Ne 13:6 And verily I say unto you, Whatsoever things ye shall ask the Father, in my name, it shall be
given unto you; therefore ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that
asketh, receiveth, and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
These promises are given over and over in the scriptures. They sound simple, but few people have
found the key to divine favor. There are always conditions to such divine promises.
A partial list of these conditions contains the following:
1. Ask in faith I N. 4:13
2. Ask not amiss II N. 3:65
3. Ask in faith believing En. 1:24
4. Whatsoever ye ask that is right Mos. 2:36; III N. 8:51
5. Thou shalt not ask that which is contrary to my will H. 3:117
6. Ask, doubting nothing Mn. 4:84
7. Ask not that ye may consume it on your lusts Mn. 4:94
8. Ask with a firmness unshaken Mn. 4:94
9. Ask with a sincere heart Mi. 10:4, 5
10. Ask with real intent Mi. 10:4, 5
Jesus said, "My joy is great, even unto fullness, because of you, and also this [present] generation.
..for none of them are lost" (III N. 13:7). He was saddened to know the fourth generation (A.D.
400) would be "led away captive, even as was the son of perdition." This is likely a reference to
Judas Iscariot, for Jesus went on to say that this type "will sell me for silver, and for gold" (9).
He then ends his sayings, bidding his disciples to enter in at the strait gate and the narrow way
"that leads to life" (11).

3 Ne 13:12 And it came to pass when Jesus had said these words, he spake unto his disciples, one by
one, saying unto them, What is it that ye desire of me after that I am gone to the Father?
