3 Nephi Chapter 9
Then Jesus quotes much of Isaiah 52:1-15. "Ye have sold yourselves for naught; and ye shall be
redeemed without money” (76; Isa. 52: 3).
3 Ne 9:85 Then shall this covenant which the Father hath covenanted with his people, be fulfilled; and
then shall Jerusalem be inhabited again with my people, and it shall be the land of their inheritance.
Jesus then promised, "I give unto you a sign, that ye may know the time when these things shall be
about to take place, that I shall gather in from their long dispersion, my people, O house of Israel,
and shall establish again among them my Zion" (86). That sign was "when these things which I
declare unto you, and which I shall declare unto you hereafter of myself, and by the power of the
Holy Ghost. ..that they may know concerning this people. ..and shall come forth of the Father,
from them unto you. ..when these works, and the work which shall be wrought among you
hereafter, shall come forth from the Gentiles unto your seed, which shall dwindle in unbelief
because of iniquity ...that the Gentiles. ..repent and come unto me, and be baptized in my name,
and know of the true points of my doctrine, that they may be numbered among my people, O
house of Israel; ...they may know that the work of the Father hath already commenced unto the
fulfilling of the covenant which he hath made unto the people who are of the house of Israel" (87-
93).
This statement is long and involved. Reduced to a simpler form, it says: When my words and
deeds among you (as recorded in the Book of Mormon), shall come forth through the Gentiles to
your seed (Indians, Latin Americans, and others ) who have dwindled in iniquity, and the
believing Gentiles learn the true points of my doctrine and are baptized and numbered among my
people, you may know that the gathering has commenced, unto the fulfilling of my covenant to
redeem Israel. "The Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his
people” ( Isa. 11:11).
3 Ne 9:101 Yea, wo be unto the Gentiles, except they repent, for it shall come to pass in that day, saith
the Father, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots, and I will
cut off the cities of thy land and throw down all thy strongholds;
This is symbolic language which means that the Gentiles will be rendered impotent. They shall
lose their cities and strongholds; their soothsayers and witchcraft shall be cut off. They shall have
no more graven images, their groves (places of pagan worship) will be plucked up. Lyings,
deceivings, envyings, strifes, priestcrafts, and whoredoms shall be done away. “I will execute
vengeance and fury upon them, even as upon the heathen, such as they have not heard" (102-106).
