necked (stubborn) people. In some respects they were worse than the Lamanites (Jb, 2:45, 52). But
they did have righteous and spiritually-minded rulers with a few exceptions like Noah. There is
evidence that there were always a minority among the Nephites who were righteous. Enos
declared, "And there were exceeding many prophets among us" (35). Their prophecies of wars,
death, "duration of eternity, and the judgments and the power of God" were the means which kept
"them in the fear of the Lord"
Enos 1:43 And as I saw that I must soon go down to my grave, having been wrought upon by the power
of God that I must preach and prophesy unto this people, and declare the word according to the truth
which is in Christ.
1:43 Enos says it was 179 years since Lehi left Jerusalem (42). He looked forward to a rest “with
my Redeemer" (45) and of looking on his face "with pleasure." Yet as long as he had strength he
carried on the work of God.
